I am currently being an au pair in the United States, precisely in California. I have been working here for the past two years. No matter how hard it got at times, I am so grateful for this experience. It grew me up both personally and professionally. It has been such an enriching life choice and I would love to start all over again somewhere else.
During my first year, I was located in Baltimore, Maryland. I used to take care of two little girls, which had just turned 3 and 5 when I arrived. My responsibilities involved bringing them to school and back home, scheduling their days with activities, preparing their meals and twice a week taking care of their night time routine.
This year, I moved with my new host family to California. I am taking care of three boys, which are now 1 and a half years old, 4 years old and 6 years old. I take care of getting them to school, I make sure the baby is safe and most of the time, I work in the afternoon to night. Therefore, I help them with homework, take care of their activities schedule, getting them ready to leave in time, prepare them meals and play with them. I also work together with a baby sitter a couple of hours every day and I value her help and advice. I think we make a great team together!
The baby has a strong allergy to peanuts and this is tricky as the oldest boy eats peanut butter in most of his meals. But luckily we always managed for him to stay away from it!
