Hello! My name is Miriam and I am a 23-year-old American. Since September 2023, I have lived in Madrid, Spain, while I work as an English language assistant for fourth and fifth graders in a public bilingual school. I love Madrid deeply and am planning to stay as a language assistant for a second year. I hope to stay in Europe during the summer and am seeking an au pair position from July 2024 - late August or mid September 2024.
A little bit about me - I am from New Mexico and grew up hiking among beautiful mountains. After graduating high school, I went to Stanford University in California and studied Political Science. I worked in Washington, D.C. for several months before deciding to move to Spain so that I could explore the Spanish language, culture, and cuisine. I’m very interested in history and politics. In my free time, I enjoy reading, climbing (just indoor, but maybe I’ll try outdoor soon!), and playing trumpet, piano, and drums.
I want to become an Au Pair because I love kids! Before working as a language assistant, I had some experience babysitting and tutoring ages ranging from 5-12. As a language assistant I’ve acquired a lot of experience with 9 and 10 year olds, both in large and small groups. I love chatting with individual students and learning about their families, their favorite foods, and the sports they enjoy. I would love to help you with the children and around the house while getting an experience in a new European city or town.
If you choose to host me, you should be rest assured that I am easy to live with. I keep my space tidy and clean-up promptly after I cook. I crave both time spent with people as well as time alone to recharge my social battery. I am a hard worker and good at keeping myself occupied with hobbies once I’ve completed tasks around the house.
I would love to live with a Spanish family who might help me with my Spanish, but any country or language is good! I am very happy to only speak in English around the children, if English-exposure is desired.

My experience with children includes babysitting, tutoring, and working as a teacher. I have experience with kids ages 5-12, but would be happy to help with kids of any ages! I have a playful spirit and love games and sports of all kinds.
While I have never worked as an Au Pair, I have worked on a farm through the WWOOF program. Thus, I am familiar with exchanging work for room and board.
