The boys go to school every day of the week (Mon-Fri). Mom works four days a week (Monday off), and Dad typically works five days (or more). Due to the work of Mom, who leaves the house at 07:00, the au pair is asked to take care of the kids in the morning (Tue-Fri) and bring them to school. Also, the Monday afternoon pick-up is often done by the au pair.
We would like to have dinner prepared by the au pair as much as possible (5 days a week). Mom returns from work in the late afternoon (around 18:00), and Dad usually comes home around 19:00 or might be working occasionally abroad, although at this moment in time, Dad is around the house quite frequently. Mom is studying for her MBA in addition to her work; therefore, she is sometimes very engaged with her studies.
The au pair is asked to take care of the boys in the mornings (four days a week) and bring them to school (including preparing breakfast, lunch boxes, etc.). After school (five days a week), the au pair will pick them up. On Wednesday, school is only half a day.
After school, the boys need to be picked up, taken care of, and made to do their homework. They might also need to go to the library, take music lessons, do some fun stuff, be brought to/picked up from friends for playdates, or be brought to sports or additional school activities or have friends coming over for a playdate. They can also go out to museums or do other fun things in the park. Also, when it's raining…
We would like to have dinner prepared by the au pair as much as possible (5 days a week) dinner at around 18:00. Occasionally, the au pair will be asked to work a Friday or Saturday night (depending on availability) so that we, as parents, can enjoy a bit of our social life as well ;-) Also, some light household tasks will be asked for (folding laundry and vacuum cleaning) and preparing dinner on working days (Mon-Fri). If assistance is asked from the au pair this will always be done based on availability of the au pair herself. We value the freetime of the au pair as well.
The au pair will be part of the family as one of us. If possible we diner and do activities together. We like a proactive person who becomes part of the family, so things flow naturally. The au pair is basically off during the weekends (unless there are exceptions, which we will always communicate in advance and discuss the options with the au pair).
