My latest job was for this incredible family where I was the nanny of an 8-year-old girl. Compared to my previous au-pair duties, much more educational tasks were trusted with me, alongside bigger responsibilities and more everyday need care. I was fully responsible for free time activities and holiday plans. I was also taken to family holidays where my main role was still to keep this active, fun girl entertained. Our fun activities included lots of exercise and time outside, such as regular swimming at the gym, tennis lessons, cycling and running, dog walking; but we also enjoyed working on creative and crafty projects. Being so involved and responsible thought me yet again new lessons.

Working with this family was an amazing opportunity to learn more about young children as I was looking after a 16 months old girl. I have not worked with children under the age of 1 before so I have learned a lot. We visited many different museums, playgrounds, local farms, toddler groups where I got the chance to refresh and widen my nursery rhyme knowledge, we went to the local library and swimming pool as well on a regular basis. It was a great time to learn about really young children and different fun free-time activities.

I have worked for the Thomas Family for a bit more than two years and I was looking after two children, a 7-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy. My main duties were to do the morning school runs with the children, take them to their after-school-activities, provide them with nutritious food throughout the day and help with their educations such as their homework, reading practice and developing their creativity. During the school holidays and half terms my duty was to plan fun and diverse activities to entertain them. I was trying to make sure they had a balanced mixture of physical exercise, time outside and creative, self-developing activities. These two years helped to broaden my perspectives in the field.

In Washington, D.C. I was working for a single mum who had 5-years-old twin boys. I was working 6 days a week so I could help over the weekend as well. My main responsibility was to look after the boys in the mornings before school and in the afternoon after school until late evening. This meant I was not only involved in their entertainment and their educational development, but also had to help with bedtime routine. I often accompanied the boys on their school trips to the theatre, zoo or museum, where I was helping the teachers looking after the class. It was a really great experience to work with this age group and with twins in a really different work environment (USA).

I have spent 3 month after a 3 and a 7 year old girl. My role covered the usual au-pair tasks and I have spent most of the weeks with little one given she was going to nursery only once a week. During the day I was organizing educational activities for her. Building relationships was really important at this stage and it helped me a lot to learn how to successfully communicate with children in this age in the friendliest way possible. It was a really good summer experience where I was glad to work with different ages.
