Carta al Aupair

Hi! Future Aupair!
We're looking for an English-speaking Au-pair for a long-term stay (10 months, from September to June, during the school year).
Our family consists of five people: Dad, Paco (49), Mom, Gemma (47), and our three kids—Laia (13), Marc (11), and Martí (9). Paco works for a pharmaceutical company and Gemma works in a tech company. Both work from home two days a week.

We live in a renovated, comfortable apartment near the city of Mataró (15 minutes on foot). Mataró is a seaside city located about 40 minutes by train or bus from Barcelona. The bus stop is just 5 minutes from our home.

The flat has four bedrooms, a small balcony/terrace, and everything needed for a comfortable stay. A car is not necessary.

We offer a small but cozy private room with a shared bathroom. Wi-Fi is available, and you'll have access to Netflix, HBO, and Amazon Prime on the living room TV.

We're looking for someone fluent in English who can help our kids practice and learn the language. The main responsibilities include walking one of the children to and from school (a 15-minute walk) 2–3 times a day and preparing a simple lunch for them. The kids are mostly independent otherwise.

Weekly Schedule (Monday to Friday):
8:30–9:15 AM – Walk the youngest child to school.

12:15–3:15 PM – Pick him up, prepare a simple lunch for the kids and yourself, and:

Give an English lesson to the youngest 2 days a week.

Help with schoolwork 2 days a week.

Fridays are free from lesons.

In addition:

Monday & Wednesday afternoons – English classes for the older two (ages 13 and 11), 1.5 hours each. Total: 6 hours per week.

We offer €70 per week, including during school holidays.

All meals and laundry are included. You’re welcome to be part of the family or enjoy your own space—whatever feels best for you at any time.

We don’t have pets, and our home is smoke-free.

A bit more about us:
Laia is in her first year of high school. She's cheerful, friendly, and caring with her brothers.
Marc, the middle child, starts high school next year. He’s affectionate and easygoing.
Martí, the youngest, is curious and talkative. He’s nearly independent, but sometimes needs a reminder or two.

Paco is passionate about photography and does most of the cooking. He enjoys tennis and time with friends. He works weekdays and usually handles the kids' extracurricular activities in the evenings (athletics and tennis).

Gemma works weekdays as well, mostly from home two or three days a week, and finishes later in the day. While time is tight for hobbies, she enjoys being with family and friends.

As a family, we love sports like running and tennis. On weekends, we often visit the grandparents in a nearby village. We love to travel—usually to European cities during Easter—and we visit family in Granada (900 km away) twice a year.

English is very important to us, and we’d love for our children to feel confident and comfortable speaking it naturally. We currently have an au pair, and it has been a very positive experience—our children’s English has improved a lot.

We’re open, flexible, and enjoy learning about other cultures and traditions.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask—we’ll be happy to answer and clear up anything you’d like to know.

If you are interested in our family, please answer this invitation!
Francisco and Family,

Note: Additional info about de VISA:
We’d like to mention the issue of the VISA.

For people from outside Europe, there are two types of visas: one for studies and one that is Non-Lucrative.

The student visa has 20 weekly study hour requirements that are incompatible with what we need. And also, it is in Barcelona, not in our city, that makes more difficult to do it.

That leaves the Non-Lucrative Visa, but this visa requires a minimum amount of savings to be granted. One of the requirements is to have around €2,400 (400% of the IPREM) saved for each month you plan to stay in Spain.

For example:

If you plan to stay for 5 months, you’d need €12,000 in total.
If you plan to stay for 10 months, then €24,000.
If you meet these requirements and are still interested, we can arrange a video call to get to know each other.
