This September will be my first Au pair experience, 3 months in Spain for 3 kids ages 7, 11, and 12.
As far as experience with kids go otherwise, I’ve looked after my cousins on occasions for the past few years, who are currently 3 and 6. They are some of my favorite people ever. I’ve also observed in numerous daycares for my elementary ed major, which would always make my week (though it was always so hard to leave, the kids were great and got very quickly attached). I’ve also taken some classes regarding child development and education.
I just adore children and while I still want to go into the education field to help as many children as possible, I’ve always wanted to do this kind of thing and figured I should now before I have my more permanent teaching position here. I’ve also always wanted to go abroad. My father was a military kid who grew up in Europe, and my Grandparents on my other side are from out of the US as well (Austria, Germany & Colombia), and I’d like to gain that experience too. So I feel this is the best combination of everything! I think I could learn a lot from it, including another language! I feel like it’ll help me gain a better sense of the world, and especially come in handy when it comes to my future students to know approaches outside of our bubble. Im also okay with Au pairing in the US for a bit, it’s a big country and there’s still plenty to learn.
Willing to go to any country that requirements will allow, please note that countries such as Italy will let me stay for up to three months as a tourist on my regular passport, but past then I would need a certain amount of language school hours and a visa. Other countries are similar.
There are two periods in 2026 I can work:
1. Winter/Spring: 1-4 months. I can start as soon as this January and stay until early May at the latest (I have to go to my sister’s graduation). Can begin any point within.
2. Summer: 1-2 months. I can start again in mid/late May and stay through July at the latest. Can begin any point within. In August I will be back to the US to start school again. I likely won’t start looking for the Summer until the Spring, but willing to discuss.
