Here’s our ideal scenario (but we can negotiate):
Act as Mother’s Helper for stay-at-home mom.
10 hours a week at $15/hr (minimum of 3 days a week but you could divide up the hours however you like)
Help 3 year old girl and/or 5 year old boy with “homework”. When homework help isn’t needed, Mother’s Helper can choose from a list of various chores that Mom could use help with such as chopping veggies for the night’s planned dinner, wiping down the bathroom, vacuuming, prepping a craft for a following day, etc.
Your own bedroom with queen bed is provided. Bathroom is shared with the kids (and any visitors who may need to use the toilet).
We have a second full-sized fridge (with freezer) which is mostly empty so you could store your own food in there (meals not provided unless family is dining out and you come with).
Your airfare and hotel room covered when we travel (both sets of grandparents are in Orange County, California so we usually make a few trips down there) or you could have the option to have the week off from childcare and stay at home caring for our pets.
We live close to Lake Tahoe, California! (But on the Nevada Side)
Being in South Reno we are only 24 minutes away from Mt. Rose ski resort and 15 minutes away from the Reno-Tahoe Airport— which is an international airport! There are several shopping malls in the area (indoor and outdoor options) and many various conventions are held year round due to the number of hotels and casinos in the city. There’s plentiful hiking in our area (Reno/Tahoe is a destination spot for many events).
Some local colleges include: Unitek College Reno Campus (offers various nursing and healthcare degrees), Lake Tahoe Community College, and of course the University of Nevada, Reno (with division 1 football!). There’s also the Milan Institute of Cosmetology (two locations are within a 15 minute drive).
If you are social and/or physically active this is the place to be because there is much to see and do.

We only need 10 hours a week so an au pair from another country doesn’t make financial sense (with the $10K agency fee and minimum of $195/week that would come out to about $40/hr [at 10 hours a week] and that’s before the estimated food costs [an online calculator estimated it at $579 a month for our area, so it would be more like $55/hr which just doesn’t work for us).
Nevertheless, we’re keeping our account active just incase someone might be interested in the Mother’s Helper job.

Pay would be $15/hr*
Prorated to $5 for every 15 minutes for any care beyond the 10 hrs a week agreed upon. So if we ask you to work 1 hour but we arrive 5 minutes late, we’ll pay for $15/hr plus $5 for entering into the next 15 minute block)
*Note: NV is only 9 of 50 states without an income tax so that’s a bonus! :)
Nanny would have their own full sized fridge with freezer. Nanny would be welcome to share in our meals (we could just divide the cost of the meal by 4 and nanny could cover that portion). Alternatively, nanny could choose to trade watching the kids while mom preps the meal in exchange for a free meal.
Schedule would ideally be as follows:
2 hours Monday-Friday (10 hours a week)
with optional hours offered as nanny desires (assuming family has a need and can offer additional hours)
Nanny will have lots of free time to explore, make friends, etc.
Sundays would be official “off” day for nanny. If we had a need, and nanny wanted to work, we’d pay our nanny time and a half ($22.50/hr) on Sundays.
We are looking for someone who would playfully engage the children (not just purely supervise them). As Mom was a former teacher, she has some educational activities and age appropriate worksheets she may like the nanny to do with the children. We are looking for a nanny who is tidy and does well with structure; our children have consistent rules (such as after they play with a toy they are to immediately put it away, cleaning up after themselves when they eat, and things like that). While they are only 5 years old and 3 years old, teaching them to help keep things tidy has been very helpful at keeping our home in overall happy, clean, and peaceful state. Lastly, we are ideally looking for someone who considers themself an “early bird” or “early riser”. At least one of our toddlers is usually up by 6:30am in the morning so we wouldn’t want the nanny’s sleep to be disturbed by an awake and active household going on just outside their door.
