As an Au Pair registered on our website you might have noticed that we have all kinds of families searching for an Au Pair. There are families with two parents, but also families with only one single parent, either mother or father. While single mothers don’t have too many problems finding an Au Pair, it looks different for single fathers. There are many single fathers who became a single parent due to a tragedy. Now they are just looking for someone  who helps them taking care of their kids, because it is so different if there is a woman in the household caring for the little ones or not. Men might need some more help with the household, organizing the day of the kids or sticking to rules and being consequent. An Au Pair is a great choice for a single dad, just as it is for a single mom. 

Yet there are single dads registered on our website who don’t seem to look for an Au Pair but for a girlfriend. They send weird messages or ask strange questions. We have collected some warning signs, that should help you to question a single dad’s profile: 

-The profile picture is a picture of the dad only and there are no pictures of the kids at all (although some parents don’t like having photos of their kids in the internet)

- He pays more than the Au Pair regulations expect him to

- He sends messages asking for more pictures

- In his first message he is telling the Au Pair to continue the conversation on whatsapp, facebook or any other platform

- He makes compliments about the Au Pairs look

- He invites the Au Pair to stay with him forever

- The dad doesn’t talk about his children at all and does not describe the work schedule

- He talks a lot about himself, either his success in his job and life in general or about his problems

- The Au Pair needs a visa and instead of telling her about the possible visa for Au Pairs in his home country, he tells her that they would figure something out (Please, stick to the program regulations! 

There is no reason why a host father has to ask questions about your looks. If there is anything that ever makes you feel uncomfortable, please let us know and send us an email or a complaint about the single father Host Family. 

We noticed that we get more complaints about fathers that might not be too attractive than about fathers that are good looking and send strange messages to Au Pairs. Please note that it doesn’t matter if the father is handsome or not. He should never send you inappropriate messages. Below you find some of the messages, that should make you pay attention: 

First message: “Hi Could we connect on skype or whatsapp?”

= Maybe it is a person who really wants to talk to you in a normal way. It is far more common though that this father will send you messages that are not ok, because he knows that we can track the messages and block his profile. 

If you get a message like this, please tell that person that you would like to keep the conversation on our platform. Of course you can have the video calls on Skype, but we recommend you to send any other messages through our secure messaging system. 

“I like your profile and amazing pictures, but maybe you’re a little bit too attractive to work in my home. I’m just single parent, you know.”

= This message looks like the first attempt of letting an Au Pair know that the guy is attracted to her. This dad obviously wants to check, how the Au Pair reacts on his compliment that she might be too attractive. 

“Sweetie!

You are sooooo very very beautiful that I almost can’t breathe!!!

You make me sure that God exists, because no other than God could create such a fantastic Woman like Y O U ... Mmmmmm. 

Thanks for your phone number! I will add you in whatsapp and call you later.

Have a wonderful day. Send 1 000 kisses.”

= Well, it couldn’t be more obvious. You might see it as flattering if this is a message of a young guy. But what if this is a message of an old man who is taking care of his wife who has alzheimers and with his profile he pretends to be looking for someone to help him?

You will be able to block a person, so they can not contact you anymore! Help us to keep other users safe! Send us a complaint about someone who makes you feel uncomfortable, so we can make sure, that other users will be saved before they can get contacted by that person too.
