Au Pair in Paris: My experience report as an Au Pair in France
Hello everyone,

my name is Benedicta and I am a 20 year old girl from Munich. For the last couple of month I had
the honor of spending my Au Pair in a suburb of Paris. I could not have wished for a better Host
Family. They included me from day one in their daily life and I got very lucky, that the two boys (age
6 and 11) accepted me very fast.

I chose Paris because ever since I came here and fell in love with the city in 2016 for an exchange
in a boarding school in the centre of Paris, it was my dream to come back in the future, for a longer
period of time.

My Au Pair stay started at the beginning of March, so right before the situation with the pandemic began to worsen. During the lockdown, my main task was to homeschool the kids. Often this wasn't very
easy, when you have to maintain positivity and motivation during these difficult times.

From their German school the kids got their tasks at the beginning of the week send to a
digital pinboard called „Padlet“ and we tried finishing everything by Friday. Very often the kids
had classes via Zoom. This was very interesting to see how the boys are learning more
and more digital skills over the time.

Even though the family would speak mostly English and sometimes German, I was still able to
improve my French. I did that by using an online language school. In times of corona it´s
obvious that no language school in Paris was able to offer classes, so this was a great alternative
because you were able to speak in a group of 5 with a French native speaker.

At the beginning of June the city came back alive and during the weekend I was able to discover
Paris and the wonderful parks and cafés with my friends from the exchange years.
I am very thankful for this wonderful experience here and I would definitely recommend it to
anybody who is not afraid to step a bit outside of their comfort zone!
