Dear host family,

I’m Lucy, a 21 year old neuroscience graduate living in Manchester! I'm dependable and energetic and from babysitting jobs to working at a children’s summer camp, I’ve always been passionate about children’s wellbeing and helping them develop fun and positive experiences they can learn from and take into adulthood.

Since graduating I’ve been torn between pursuing a career in childcare/developmental psychology and travelling. Becoming an au pair gives me the opportunity to experience both! I’m passionate about exploring different cultures as well as sharing my own which I hope to do as an au pair. I take a hand-on approach and am eager to not only help a family out with their daily routines but also to grow in a personal and professional manner.

My experience in childcare has taught me that no day is the same and there is no set of instructions to follow when working with children. I've therefore developed a very open, understanding and patient approach when taking care of children which in conjunction with my ability to maintain a balanced and routinely lifestyle, makes me a strong candidate to be your au pair. I am experienced with the demanding nature of the job and whether it's doing the school run, helping with homework or preparing meals I'm excited to become a helping hand.

My degree and volunteer work I've participated in have taught me the importance of creating a happy and safe environment for children to grow up in as well as healthy strategies of dealing with inevitable emotional outbursts which focus on channeling their anger and frustration into other avenues. Working at a summer camp with kids aged 5-14 as well as regular babysitting gave me first-hand experience with catering to the needs of different age groups, diffusing arguments or meltdowns and how to keep children engaged without the need for technology.
