To Potential Host Families,

My name is Ruby, and I am 23 years old this July. I’m looking to start an au pair job, preferably in Stockholm, between July and October 2024 for 6 months to a year, with the possibility of an extension. My goal is to find my footing in a foreign country while working a job that I find fulfilling. I am particularly drawn to au pairing in Scandinavia due to my familial ties to Denmark - my dad is Danish and I have family living in Copenhagen. I have had the privilege of spending significant time in the region and have developed a deep appreciation for its culture, language, and lifestyle. This coupled with my upbringing in New York City and college years in Philadelphia have given me the necessary tools to be able to bridge cultural gaps and adapt seamlessly to new environments.

I have always had a natural affinity for working with children, and my experiences reflect this passion. My experience includes babysitting in high school for a family with a 5 year old and 10 year old, working at a children’s art studio, and serving as a counselor at a 3 week overnight camp every summer since 2017. Through these I have developed an understanding of the needs and interests of children of all ages. At camp, I am responsible for planning activities and ensuring the well-being of a group of young girls ages 7 to 9. The camp is my favorite place in the world, and the work I do there has been the most rewarding.

In addition to my childcare experience, I studied music in college - I sing, play harp, and guitar - and I love the outdoors and believe in the importance of engaging children in nature-based activities. I love exploring new places, hiking, biking, skiing, and swimming. Additionally, my background in music and art has instilled in me a love for creativity and self-expression. I take joy in fostering a child’s curiosity, inspiring their creativity, and encouraging them to express themselves freely.

I am also a passionate learner, having studied Danish, French, Italian, and Spanish, and I am eager to continue expanding my language skills. In addition to English, my first language, I have a basic understanding of Danish and am actively improving my proficiency by taking lessons from my Farmor. I also have a beginner/intermediate level of French, learned during my schooling, and a grasp of Italian basics from studying abroad in Rome. I also attended a dual language school for Spanish in my younger years.

One of my greatest passions is traveling and discovering new cultures. I thrive on the excitement of exploring unfamiliar destinations, trying new foods, and immersing myself in different traditions. I am excited about the opportunity to immerse myself in your family's culture and traditions, and I am eager to learn from you and share my own experiences and perspectives.

As an au pair, I am not only committed to providing exceptional childcare but also to assisting with household tasks. I am more than willing to help with cleaning and cooking to support the smooth functioning of your home. I am organized, patient, and adaptable, and I am confident that my easy-going nature and strong work ethic would make me a great fit as an au pair. I also have a close-knit relationship with my family, which has instilled in me a deep appreciation for family values.
