Carta a la familia

Dear host family

It is a pleasure to write to you.

I am a college student and am currently in my second semester of the Visual Arts course. This course is about painting with paints, pencils, pens, as well as sculptures, photographs, all focused on arts in general. I currently live in São Bernardo do Campo, where I work and study.

Since the beginning of this year, I have not lived with my parents, because the college I chose did not have one in the city where I lived. I had to move to be closer to the college and my work, because the company where I currently work moved to the city where I live. I have been working with my father for over a year. My relationship with my family is great, they support me in my decisions and help me when necessary. I have two sisters and a nephew, I am the middle sister. My oldest sister is 25 years old and gave me a nephew 3 years ago and my youngest sister is 12 years old and I became a mother on 06/21/2024. My mother always asked me to help take care of my younger sister. And I always changed her diapers, bathed her and played with her. She made pictures and puppets out of paper, origami to entertain her. We watched and performed theater. We did this until I started my studies and moved to another city. And with my nephew, I helped my sister take care of him when she needed it. My father is 54 years old, his profession is CNC programming and he has a machining and tool company, my mother is 46 years old and has an online store selling cakes, sweets and savory snacks. My mother also graduated in gastronomy, she is a gastronomist.
I miss taking care of my nephew and taking care of my sister. He really enjoyed taking care of them.
I still don't have a driver's license, because I had to choose between going to college and driving. I chose to study because I can get my license later.
I am a creative, friendly person, I like being able to help, I miss being with my younger sister, because we played a lot, even though I am older than her. I showed her the cartoons I liked to watch and taught her how to play with the toys I got when I was younger.

In my free time, I like to visit friends and family, go for walks, go shopping, but I also really like to draw and make origami and clay sculptures. I miss doing judo, because I stopped doing it the year my grandmother passed away. Then the pandemic came and changed everything.

I talked to my family about living abroad so I could work and continue studying, and they thought it was great, because it's a unique opportunity to get to know new cultures, people, learn new languages and have an experience that many wouldn't have the courage to have. But they are proud of me, because they say they are happy that I am seeking my happiness and independence.

I want to be an Au Pair for several reasons, but the first is to be able to go to another country to work and study. And in this job I can do what I love most, taking care of children. Even as an adult, I like to draw and teach people how to draw and fold paper. I like to pass on my knowledge to children, see the sparkle in their eyes and learn something new. This glow is unique because it is very gratifying to see the joy in the eyes of a child who has learned something new and runs to show their parents.
