Au Pair in Turkey: Information on the Program

Turkey is a country between Europe and Asia, known for its history, hospitality, Mediterranean coast, lively cities, and rich cultural traditions. As an Au Pair in Turkey, you can experience daily life with a local family, learn about Turkish culture, and help with childcare in the family home.

Turkey does not have an official Au Pair program. Instead, foreign applicants wishing to work in a family home must follow the general rules for foreign domestic/childcare workers. According to the Turkish Ministry of Labour, foreigners must have a valid work permit or exemption before starting work. Domestic work permits are only granted for specific care duties, including childcare, elderly care, care for people with disabilities, and patient accompaniment.

Host Families provide Au Pairs with:

Accommodation

The Host Family should provide a suitable private room in the family home. The room should be safe, furnished and suitable for daily living.

Meals

The Host Family should provide meals for the Au Pair. Full board and lodging should be clearly included in the written agreement.

Pocket Money

Turkey does not have an official Au Pair pocket money amount. Since the arrangement is treated as work, the Host Family should agree on a legal salary and follow the work permit and social security rules. The official 2026 minimum wage in Turkey is 33,030.00 TRY gross per month, and 28,075.50 TRY net per month.

Language Course

A Turkish language course is not mandatory under a specific Au Pair law. However, because the stay should also support cultural exchange, the Host Family may help the Au Pair find a Turkish course. Any contribution to course costs should be agreed upon before arrival.

Health Insurance

The Host Family must fulfil the social security obligations connected to the approved work permit. The Host Family should also ensure that the Au Pair has valid health coverage from the start of the stay, especially during the arrival period.

Transportation

There is no official rule requiring Host Families to provide a public transport card, bike, or car. However, if transport is needed for childcare duties, the Host Family should cover or provide it. Private transport use should be agreed in writing.

Legal Support

The Host Family should support the Au Pair with the legal work procedure. To work in Turkey, the applicant must apply through the Turkish mission, and the employer must submit the required documents to the Ministry of Labour within ten working days after the applicant’s consular application.

Contract Information

Understanding your agreement

Written Agreement Written Agreement Turkey does not provide one official standard Au Pair contract. However, the Host Family and Au Pair should always make a written agreement before the stay begins. The agreement should include the Au Pair’s duties, working hours, pocket money, accommodation, meals, insurance, time off, holidays, transport and notice period. You can download our contract template and customise it.
Contract Duration Contract Duration The duration of the contract should match that of the approved visa, work permit, and residence status. A Turkish work permit entitles a foreign national to work and reside in Turkey for the period of its validity. As work permits are issued for a period shorter than the passport's validity period, the passport expiry date is important when planning the stay.
