Letter to the family

Hello, my name is Justine but everyone calls me Beanie! I wanted to become an au pair because I’ve recently graduated university and I wanted to travel and learn a new language while being able to provide help for family. I grew up in a family with lots of siblings and I’ve always loved kids and found that their curiosity about the world and new things so admirable. Growing up in a large family has allowed me to be able to handle whatever life throws at me and understand my role in any family situation. While I was in university I worked as a support worker for people with disabilities and that experience allowed me to become more patient and understanding of other peoples experience while dealing with stressful moments. I know not to take things too personally and how to cope with intense emotions.

Experience

I’ve been an au pair for 4 months now in Spain with two kids. I was able to adjust to the schedule of my host family quite quickly and create special bonds with my kids that I cherish. My role in the family was to be a big sister for the kids. In the mornings I would help prep breakfast and backpacks for school and help get the kids ready. In the afternoons I would pick up the kids from school and either play at the park or play at home where I usually prepared some English games. Sometimes the kids would want to do something different and when they did I just went along with them and used it as an opportunity to improve their English through play and experience. After supper, I would read the kids an English book or two before they went off to bed. I’m very flexible and sometimes would take care of the kids by myself on weekends as well. Being an au pair in Madrid I’ve been able to experience so many new things and meet new people and I’d really love to continue this experience.
