Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Aupair, we are a family of 6, my husband, four kids, two boys (10 and 8) and two girls (7 and 4), and me. We are looking for an aupair to be part of our family, as a big sister to our kids. Our kids go to the German School, so it is very important to us that you speak German to them, so they can improve their language. At home we speak manly Spanish. I was in the German School too, because one of my grandfathers was German and the other one was Swiss, so I speak German and I would be very happy to be able to practice my German with you.
We live in Santiago, the Capital of Chile, in a Neighborhood called Vitacura, which is a very quiet place, near to all the “German Colony” in Santiago (German School, German Club, German Hospital, etc).
We have a big shopping center, a few blocks away from our home (Alto las Condes), where you can go to the cinema or buy anything you need. Driving in Chile is not that easy as it is in Germany, but it is far easier than in the rest of South America.
There are several language schools in Santiago where you can improve your Spanish skills and meet other aupairs, exchange students, etc. During the mornings, the kids go to school, so you could use that time to study Spanish or do whatever you like.
On weekends we usually go to some friend’s house, have a bbq at home, go to de beach (we have a house in Zapallar, about two hours away from Santiago), or to the south of Chile and Argentina. We go a lot to Huilo Huilo, which is a family tourism and conservation project in the south of Chile and would be great if you go with us, because is a very beautiful place with many outdoor activities.
My nephews are 17, 20 and 24 years old, so I can introduce them to you, so you can meet Chileans of you age. They speak Spanish, German and English.
Kind Regards,
Andrea

Job Description

Our kids go all to school in the morning at 8 am. Victoria, the youngest, finishes school at 12:45. The other three finish school at 13:35 (3 days a week) and 16:15 (2 days a week). So you will have always the mornings free. At 12:45 and 13:35 usually my mother picks them up, but sometimes she has some issues and you could help us with that. In the afeternoon they have different sports mainly in "Club Manquehue", which is the German Club in Santiago. The idea is that you take them to the sports and study with them when they need it. They have all the subjects in German, so it should be easy for you to study or help with homeworks. In Manquehue you can also do some sport, go to de pool, or whatever you like while they are at hockey, tennis or football. I would give you my car so you can carry them. And if you need to go anyware elso you can use the car too, we just need to coordinate it. You can also use uber, it works very well in Chile, I can set you an account with my card. From our house you can take the bus to the subway, is not far.
Weekends are free, but you are welcome to do activities with us. We usually go to some friends’ house, have a bbq at home, go to de beach (we have a house in Zapallar, about two hours away from Santiago), or to the south of Chile and Argentina. We go a lot to Huilo Huilo, which is a family tourism and conservation project in the south of Chile and would be great if you go with us, because is a very beautiful place with many outdoor activities.
We may ask your help for a Saturday night if we have a party or something, but we will always plan it in advance and depending of course on your plans.
During the week we have a maid who does all the cleaning and cooking in the house. She stayed at night two, so if you want to go out in the night there is no problem.
I learned German at school, but with the years I have forgotten many words, but it would be great to speak in German to you to improve it. My husband speaks no German, but he does speak English and of course Spanish.

We have a small pool in the garden and a barbecue area. We live very close to parks, shopping centers, cinemas, public transport, etc. Santiago is a huge city, so there are many things to do. All year round, you can assist to concerts and festivals, but spetially in summer. The beach is about 1.5 hours away and in winter you can go skiing in the mountains, about 1 hour from our house.
There are also many hills to climb very close to the city. We go often to Cerro Manquehue, which is 15 minutes away from our place.
