Letter to the family

Hello,
I am Mija, a British born Lithuanian. When I was younger I was fluent in Lithuanian, however over time I have lost most of my fluency and I believe being an au pair will give me a great chance to improve!

From the age of three, my parents have been foster carers in the UK. Because of this, I have a wealth of experience of caring for children of all ages. Moreover, as I have enjoyed this so much, I chose to be assessed by the County Fostering Service and have been approved to look after foster children for extended periods of time, including driving them.

Mostly I have done overnights for children from the ages of 0-16 but I have also looked after children for longer periods of time- the longest being for a 4 and 5 year old sibling pair for a week while my parents were on holiday.

My responsibility during this period were taking care of the house, looking after our two cats, two tortoises, our dog, watching over my 15 year old sister, feeding and bathing the children, doing school runs, taking the children for contacts with their parents, and lastly, trying to have as much fun as possible while they were home!

Experience

Through my experience working with children, I have come to understand that every child has different needs. This includes working to respect their parents wishes- whether religion, diet, or anything in between, I believe maintaining a routine is important. It is because of these values that I believe I can make a great au pair.

While I still have some basic Lithuanian skills, when visiting Lithuania I have always been surrounded by people who spoke English. Hence, I would love the opportunity to immerse myself in Lithuanian culture and put myself out there, while helping a family out.
