Letter to the family

Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Michelle, and I’m excited about the opportunity to become an au pair and nanny with your family. I’m currently an infant teacher at a local childcare facility and a nursing student at Columbia State Community College, where I’m halfway through my degree. My long-term dream is to become a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) nurse, and I have a deep passion for caring for others—especially children and babies.

What draws me to being an au pair and nanny is the chance to form closer, more meaningful relationships with the children I care for. In my current job, I love helping infants grow and thrive, but I often wish I had more time and space to connect with them one-on-one. Being an au pair would allow me to do just that—while also experiencing life with a new family and culture.

I believe I would be a great addition to your family because I bring both heart and experience. I am CPR and Basic Life Support certified, and trained to use an AED, perform the Heimlich maneuver, and respond to allergic reactions. Beyond certifications, I’m calm under pressure, attentive, and nurturing. I take pride in creating a safe and loving environment for children to learn, grow, and just be themselves.

Choosing the right person to bring into your home is an important decision, and I would be honored to be that person. I’m excited not only to care for your children, but to become a positive and supportive part of your family’s daily life.

Thank you for considering me as your au pair and nanny. I look forward to the opportunity to get to know you and your little ones!

Experience

I have always had a deep love for caring for children, which is why I’ve pursued both professional and personal experiences in childcare. Currently, I work as an infant teacher at a licensed childcare facility, where I care for babies aged six weeks to one year. This role has taught me how to manage routines, create a safe and stimulating environment, and respond to each child’s unique emotional and developmental needs.

In addition to my current role, I’ve also cared for children through babysitting, helping out in my community, and supporting friends and family with their little ones. I am very familiar with feeding, changing, soothing, and engaging infants and toddlers. I find it incredibly rewarding to watch them grow and reach new milestones.

The reason I want to become an au pair and nanny abroad is because I’m passionate about both childcare and cultural exchange. Living abroad would give me the chance to immerse myself in a new culture, language, and lifestyle while continuing to do the work I love—caring for children. I believe that stepping outside of my comfort zone will help me grow personally and professionally, and I’m excited to bring my nurturing nature and childcare skills to a new family environment.

Being an au pair abroad also aligns perfectly with my long-term goals. As a future nurse who wants to work with infants, experiencing life with families in different parts of the world will give me a deeper understanding of how children are raised across cultures. This will help me become a more empathetic and well-rounded caregiver and healthcare provider in the future.
