Letter to the family

Dear Host Family,

Hello! My name is siyu. I am a 23-year-old female from China. I am currently pursuing a master's degree at the University of Barcelona, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business from a top-tier university in China. I am fluent in English and have a basic knowledge of Spanish. With substantial practical experience in caring for children, accompanying the elderly, and managing household tasks, I am well-liked by older adults and children and also capable of cooking, maintaining the home, and looking after pets. I am writing to express my sincere hope of becoming an au pair and domestic helper in your family and to share my enthusiasm and abilities with you.

I am warm, kind-hearted, and thoughtful by nature, and I tend to be quiet in daily life. I have extensive experience in caring for both children and the elderly, as well as the ability to get along well with pets. I have a wide range of hobbies and interests, do not smoke, and have no unhealthy habits.

In my view, a harmonious family atmosphere depends on mutual care and cooperation. I am skilled in household chores, take pleasure in keeping the environment tidy, and thoroughly enjoy cooking. I can prepare a variety of authentic Chinese dishes and would be delighted to share these culinary experiences and cultural insights with your family. Additionally, I hold a Chinese driver’s license, and can assist with outside tasks such as shopping or other errands.

Since I was young, I have always enjoyed being around people and particularly cherish the process of caring for others and bringing warmth into their lives. My brother is ten years younger than me, and since he was a baby, I have often played with him, helped him with his studies, and assisted in his daily care. This experience gave me a deep understanding of the meaning of companionship and responsibility and sparked my strong interest in education and child development. Later, during my free time, I worked as an extracurricular tutor for middle school students, helping them review lessons and complete assignments. These experiences not only strengthened my patience and communication skills but also earned me consistent praise from both the children and their parents.

In addition to caring for children, I have long been attentive to the emotional and daily needs of the elderly. Since high school, I have volunteered annually at nursing homes, spending time chatting with the residents and helping them with everyday tasks. These warm and meaningful interactions have taught me how to listen and empathize. At the same time, I have been self-studying psychology for the past eight years, which has enhanced my ability to understand emotions, provide support, and respond with sincerity and kindness—whether to children or older adults, I am always ready to offer patience and love.

If I am fortunate enough to join your family, I can provide practical help in your daily life. I can assist the children with their schoolwork, teach Chinese (I hold a Advanced Mandarin Certificate and have won a national writing award), and help them develop various interests—I love sports, including football, swimming, and running, and have also learned guitar, ukulele, go (weiqi), and sketching. Recently, I have started learning the violin, as I always maintain a sense of curiosity and passion for learning.

Furthermore, I am very fond of animals. I have had a dog myself, know how to prepare healthy dog food, and truly enjoy daily walks and playtime with pets. I have received a rabies vaccination, so there is no need to worry about any safety concerns related to dogs.

To me, being an au pair is not just a job—it is an exchange of hearts. I look forward to becoming a warm and reliable member of your family, rather than just a helper. I believe my positive attitude, attentiveness, and cheerful personality will bring a pleasant experience to your household.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my letter. I eagerly await the opportunity to communicate further with you and hope to meet your lovely family and experience your home atmosphere in person!

Warm regards,
siyu

Experience

Dear Host Family,

Hello!

Although I do not have formal experience as an Au Pair, my past involvement in caring for others has thoroughly prepared me for this role. I have always enjoyed interacting with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and am eager to immerse myself in a genuine family environment to further develop my language skills and experience local daily life. This is precisely why I wish to become an au pair and domestic helper—I hope to integrate into your family in a warm and responsible manner, not merely as a “worker,” but as a supportive and engaged presence.

Most of my experience comes from family responsibilities and volunteer activities. From a very young age, I helped take care of my younger brother. Watching him grow, I learned not only how to assist him with schoolwork and keep him company during play, but also how to offer comfort and support when he was upset. This experience lasted about 8 years. Additionally, during my undergraduate studies, I worked as an extracurricular tutor for middle school students, supervising homework and helping them review lessons. This lasted for a year and a half, and allowed me to build strong, meaningful relationships with the children.

At the same time, I have consistently participated in volunteer initiatives, especially those focused on caring for the elderly. Since primary school, I have regularly visited nursing homes every year to spend time with the residents, chatting with them and helping with daily tasks. These experiences made me realize that genuine care is not just about completing tasks, but about listening attentively and offering heartfelt companionship.

Since childhood, I have been deeply drawn to Spain, and I’ve come to love the rhythm of life and cultural atmosphere here. I truly wish to integrate into Spanish society and become a meaningful part of a family. I want to be able to genuinely help others and support a household. Being an au pair is far more than a job—it is an emotional connection between people. I am excited to contribute my skills through this experience and look forward to learning and growing with you and your family.

Thank you very much for reading my letter. I would be delighted to have the opportunity to speak with you further!

Warm regards,
siyu
