Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Future Au Pair,

Thank you for taking the time to read our letter — we’re really looking forward to welcoming someone kind, responsible, and warm into our family!

I’m a single mum living in a lovely, neighbourly street in the city of Birmingham with my two delightful children: N (a boy, currently 6 and will be 7 by your arrival) and N (a girl, now 1, turning 2 soon). Both children attend school and nursery full time, and our days tend to run on a fairly regular schedule — with school drop-offs typically around 7:30–8:00 AM and pick-ups between 4:00–6:00 PM, depending on after-school activities.

N (7) is a lively, bright, and curious boy with a real love for learning and trying new things. He currently enjoys a range of activities including chess, football, basketball, karate, piano, and swimming. His little sister is very easy-going, loves to play both independently and with her brother, and has a lovely cheerful nature.

We live just outside Birmingham city centre, with a bus stop right outside the house for easy access to town. The city itself is full of culture and opportunity, with places like the Brasshouse Language Centre (which has a fantastic library and vibrant language school) just a short ride away. Our home is cosy and friendly, and we hope you’ll feel at home here too.

I'm generally able to manage day-to-day life with the children, but I’m looking for an au pair for specific periods when my work takes me out of the city. These trips may involve overnight stays, and I anticipate being away for 2–3 days over different weeks (6-8 weeks approx) in the February to April period (though the exact dates are still being finalised). In the past, the children stayed with a childminder during these times, but I’d now much prefer them to stay in their own home where they feel most comfortable.

A full UK driving license would be helpful, as you’d have access to an automatic car for the school (5 minutes away) and nursery (about 15 minutes) runs. I will always be home for the weekend in those traveling period.

We would love to welcome someone who enjoys spending time with children, is reliable and proactive, and who values a stable, happy home. If that sounds like you, I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you so much in advance, and I hope to speak with you soon.

Warmest regards,
Onya
