Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Hello future au pair. My twins and I are so excited to meet and get to know you.
I had the wonderful opportunity to be an au pair in France when I was young and saw how powerful it can be to experience different cultures and gain language skills. So, I am delighted to have the chance to welcome you into our home and introduce you to Nova Scotia, Canada.
I am even more excited to give my children the chance to experience your culture and language.
As a single parent, there is always more to do than there is time to do it and I need help. However, my children are the light of my life and being with them brings me so much joy. So, I don't want to hand off raising them. I want to bring someone into our family who can help with the day-to-day, but also expand their world. I want them to learn about different cultures and how to interact with people from different backgrounds. I want them to learn different languages.
Right now I would really love to have a French speaking au pair. Though Halifax is English speaking and many people in Canada are unilingual, we live in a bilingual country and it is important for them to learn French. The earlier they start the better and in my experience there is no better way to learn a language than to hear it all around you. I would also like to regain my French because over the years, having not used it much, I have lost a lot. So, I would love to have an au pair who would be willing to speak French in the home.
I also want to make sure that you are getting lots of chances to speak English, if that is one of your goals for your time with us. I would love to work with you to find classes and activities that meet your needs and give you lots of opportunities to experience everything there is in Halifax.
Nova Scotia is an amazing place with a rich history, welcoming culture and beautiful landscape. We are within an hour or two drive from the beautiful Annapolis Valley or the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Halifax is a small city with all the amenities of a big city, classes and activities, museums and galleries, restaurants and entertainment, but has a slower paced, small town feel. Halifax is a very walkable city and also has an ever expanding network of bike lanes. We live right in the city, in a quiet neighbourhood that is also right in the middle of things. It is a short bus or bike ride to downtown or to Point Pleasant Park, a wooded area by the ocean with walking and biking paths. There are several other natural outdoor areas that are easily accessible by bus or bike. Our house is a five minute walk to a bus terminal with busses that can take you anywhere in the city. So, there are lots of opportunities to explore whatever you are interested in, to meet new people, and to have new adventures.
