Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello! We are the Kanak family, and we'll be moving to Central London in September. My husband, Daniel, is half Japanese and spent much of his childhood in Tokyo, while I was born and raised here in Finland. We have a joyful and curious 2-year-old daughter named Eleanor—though we all call her Nori. We are currently looking for a Japanese-speaking au pair or nanny to join our family, as it’s important to us that Nori continues learning Japanese. Daniel has been introducing her to the language from an early age, but as he now travels frequently for work, we hope to find someone who can help carry this forward in a natural, playful way. The support we’re looking for includes picking up Nori from daycare at noon, preparing her lunch, helping her settle in for her afternoon nap, and spending relaxed and engaging time with her in the afternoons—whether indoors or exploring nearby parks and cultural spots.

Job Description

The main responsibilities for our au pair or nanny will center around caring for our daughter Nori with attention, warmth, and consistency. We would need help with picking her up from daycare around noon, preparing a simple lunch for her, and helping her settle in for her daily nap. In the afternoons, we’d love for you to spend time engaging her in fun, age-appropriate activities—whether it's playing at home, reading, going for walks, or visiting nearby parks. It’s important to us that Japanese is spoken with Nori throughout your time together, as this is a key reason we’re seeking a Japanese-speaking caregiver. We also appreciate help with light household tasks related to Nori’s day—such as tidying up after meals and playtime—so that our home stays pleasant and welcoming for everyone. We are looking for someone who is warm, dependable, and truly enjoys spending time with young children.

We will provide our au pair or nanny with comfortable and private accommodation in our home. You will have your own room and a private bathroom to ensure you have the space and privacy you need to relax and feel at home. While we hope you’ll feel like part of our family, we fully respect your independence and personal time. It’s important to us that you feel comfortable, supported, and free to enjoy your own routines when you're not working. We will of course have stable Wi-Fi at home, and our home will be centrally located in London, with easy access to everything the city has to offer.
