Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

We live in hoeilaart, a very green area right next to Brussels.Thank you for taking the time to read our job posting. We are a small but loving family — just myself and my 12-year-old daughter, Lily, who has special needs. Lily is affectionate, curious, and full of personality. She attends a specialized school during the day and thrives in a structured and caring environment at home.

We are looking for someone kind, patient, and reliable to join us as a live-in caregiver and become part of our daily rhythm. This is more than a job — it’s about creating a warm, supportive environment where Lily can grow, explore, and feel secure.

In return, we offer you not only fair pay, accommodation, and meals, but also the chance to live in a welcoming household where your contribution truly makes a difference. We value open communication, respect, and stability, and we look forward to finding someone who shares these values.

If you are compassionate, experienced, and ready for a meaningful role, we would be very happy to hear from you.

Job Description

Position: Live-in Personal Assistant (self-employed) – Child with Special Needs
Location: Hoeilaart, Brussels (Belgium)
Start Date: September 2025 (flexible)
Duration: Long-term commitment (minimum 6 months, ideally longer)

About the Role:

I am looking for a kind and reliable person to support my 12-year-old daughter, who has a developmental disability. She is affectionate, curious, and attends a specialized school in Uccle throughout the year (except two weeks in summer and one week at Christmas).

The role mainly requires active involvement after school and in the evenings, with accommodation (private furnished room with internet) and meals included.

Daily Routine
• Morning (≈1.5–2h, not every day): On some days, help Lily get dressed, prepare a simple breakfast, and accompany her to school (departure between 8:30–9:30). On other days, I will manage this myself, and work starts only in the afternoon.
• Daytime: Free time while Lily is at school.
• Afternoon–Evening (≈4h active): Pick Lily up (16:00 Mon–Thu, 15:00 Fri), prepare a snack, accompany her to activities (swimming, park, hippotherapy), prepare a simple dinner, and support her evening routine. Lily follows a low-sugar, low-starch diet (mainly low glycemic index), which must be respected when preparing meals.
• Night: Presence at home (light on-call; Lily usually sleeps through the night but may wake once or twice per month).

Weekly Schedule
• Monday to Friday during school weeks.
• Two full days off per week, not always on Saturday and Sunday. The person should cover 1–2 weekends per month, with days off arranged accordingly.
• School runs year-round (no long breaks).

Candidate Profile
• Experience with children with disabilities, autism, or behavioral challenges.
• Patient, calm, able to manage frustration with gentle firmness (Lily may sometimes pull hair or pinch when upset).
• Driving license required.
• Languages: English, French, or Polish.
• Legal self-employed status with proof of insurance.
• Must already hold the legal right to live and work in Belgium — we cannot participate in visa or work permit applications.

Conditions
• Daily rate: €150–180/day (depending on experience, to be discussed).
• Accommodation & meals included (private room with internet).
• Two full days off per week (schedule adjusted if weekends are worked).
• Light household tasks related to Lily (meals, tidying, laundry).
• Stability and long-term commitment preferred.
