Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello and welcome! We are a warm, lively and loving family of four living in Potters Bar, just 19 minutes by train to central London. We are looking for a kind, energetic and caring au pair to join our family and help care for our two wonderful children.

Our daughter is 2.5 years old – bright, funny, and full of personality. She has a slight speech delay, but is making great progress and attends nursery four mornings a week. Our baby boy is 10 months old – happy, curious, and trying his best to walk! You’ll also be sharing your days with our very gentle and affectionate cocker spaniel, Wilbur.

We want someone who truly enjoys spending time with children – someone who will help them learn, play, grow and feel loved, not just sit in front of the TV. You’ll be a real member of the family, living in our spacious four-bedroom home and sharing in our day-to-day lives. We want this to be a rewarding and happy experience for you too – a home away from home.

I (Mum) am a doctor returning to work from maternity leave, and my husband works in finance in central London. We’re both busy professionals, but family means everything to us and we make sure to fill our time together with joy, love and laughter.

We’re really looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our home and hearts!

Potters bar is just on the outside of London and is 19 minutes by train to King’s Cross which allows you to get anywhere in London. Our house is a 10 minute walk from the station.

There are several restaurants and shops in potters bars, our house is 10 minutes away from these.

The closest language school is 40 minutes away.

Job Description

We’re looking for a warm, reliable and fun-loving au pair who enjoys being around young children and wants to play an active role in their development. Good spoken English is essential, as we would love for you to help support our daughter’s speech and communication as part of her everyday life. No formal childcare qualifications are required, but experience caring for young children would be a real bonus.

Your typical day might look like this:
• Morning: Help the children get dressed and prepare a simple, healthy breakfast. Then take them out to playgroups or local parks – it’s a great way for them to socialise, and for you to meet other au pairs and make friends. Our baby usually naps for around 30 minutes in the morning.
• Lunchtime: Prepare a nutritious lunch for the children – we aim for healthy, balanced meals with vegetables and protein. Don’t worry if this sounds daunting – Ceri will help you get started and guide you through the children’s favourites! Thankfully, they are not fussy eaters and enjoy most things.
• Early afternoon: Drop the children at nursery by 1pm (our daughter is in nursery three afternoons a week, but we can increase hours if you’re studying or would like more free time).
• Afternoons: While the children are at nursery, you’ll have free time for yourself, study, or to relax.
• Evening: Collect the children at 5:30pm, help with dinner at around 4:15pm if they haven’t been at nursery, then bathtime starts at 6:15pm and bedtime is around 7pm. One of us is usually home to help with this, but we’d occasionally ask you to do the evening routine solo – likely no more than once a week.

You’d also help with light household duties related to the children – such as their laundry, tidying up after meals and playtime, and helping to keep their spaces organised.

We want this to be a positive and happy experience for everyone – with good communication, support, and a genuine family atmosphere.
