Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi there!

We’re so excited at the thought of welcoming you into our family. We’re a fun-loving, close-knit family of six living just outside Richmond, North Yorkshire in a beautiful, rural countryside setting surrounded by rolling green hills, rivers, and scenic walking paths. It’s peaceful and calm out here, and we love it.

Our home is about 5 minutes from the town center, and there’s a bus stop nearby for occasional travel (though public transport is only hourly). The nearest language school is about 20 minutes away by car. If you have a driver’s license, we’re happy to provide a car — it really helps with the rural location!

We’d love to find someone who’s looking for more than just a temporary position — someone who wants to become part of our extended family. I (Josh) actually grew up with three different au pairs, and they were such a big part of my childhood. I’d love to create a similar experience for you — a second home away from home.

Job Description

We’re looking for someone kind, capable, and hands-on to support us in our daily rhythm. Your main responsibilities would include:

Helping the older kids stay on track with their daily chores and activities

Assisting with caring for Alana throughout the day — mostly keeping her engaged and entertained

Light housework like tidying, cleaning, and vacuuming

We expect around 5 hours of help per day, 6 days a week, though we’re flexible and open to adjusting based on how things evolve. You’ll have your own bedroom downstairs with a private en-suite and direct access to the kitchen and living area, which are quiet in the evenings.

Driving is a big plus given our rural setting, and we’re happy to provide a car if you have a valid license.

The ideal person has experience with children and a natural instinct to jump in where help is needed. Language skills are a bonus but definitely not essential — kindness and initiative matter most.

Accommodation

The Au Pair will have their own private bedroom located downstairs with an en-suite bathroom. The room is right next to the kitchen and living room, which are quiet and unused at night, providing plenty of personal space and privacy. We also have fast and reliable WiFi throughout the home.

Our house is set on 5 acres of land, so there’s plenty of space to move around, enjoy nature, and find peaceful spots to relax.
