Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Prospective Au Pair,
Hello from Roslyn Estates, New York! We are the Krane family—Elnaz, Justin, Bobby (6), Raphy (4), and our newest addition, Mickey, who was born in April. We are so excited to tell you a bit about our family and hopefully learn about you too.
Bobby is our adventurous, energetic six-year-old who loves basketball, running, and exploring the world around him. He has a creative mind and often spends time building with Legos or making up stories. Raphy is our sweet, affectionate four-year-old who adores reading, drawing, and cuddling. He’s a gentle soul with a big heart but is also very active and loves playing outside with his big brother. Mickey is our happy, snuggly baby who loves being held and smiled at—he’s already such a joyful little addition to our family.
Justin and I both work full-time—Justin at a local law firm and me as an attorney for an asset manager in New York City. Our weekdays are busy, but we have a steady routine that keeps things running smoothly. Your schedule will be full-time care of Mickey and the boys Monday through Friday. The boys are in school Monday through Friday from around 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, so your priority is really Mickey, whee you’ll be focused on his care—diaper changes, bottle feeds, tummy time, storytime, and eventually age-appropriate learning activities. The boys will take the bus to and from school starting in September, making your afternoons a bit easier, and my mom will also come around 3:30 to relieve you so you can take Bobby and Raphy to their activities and be back in time to wrap up your day
Weekends are your own, and we will always provide advance notice if we need your help on a rare weekend night (like for a date night). You will have plenty of free time to explore, take classes, and make the most of your experience here.
We’ve had two amazing au pairs in the past—Marleen from Germany and Zuzi from the Czech Republic—both of whom became like family to us. They still visit whenever they can, and we love keeping in touch. Our home is warm, welcoming, and full of life. Roslyn Estates is a beautiful, tree-lined neighborhood that feels like a peaceful escape while still being just 30 minutes from the excitement of New York City. There are parks, lakes, and charming shops nearby, as well as great restaurants, gyms, and beautiful beaches. We want you to feel comfortable and supported here, with plenty of freedom to explore on your own.
You will have your own private bedroom and bathroom, access to a car for personal use, and your own phone line. We believe in treating our au pairs like adult members of the family—sharing meals, celebrating holidays (both Jewish and Persian), and enjoying quality time together—but we also value your independence and want you to have the time and freedom to make your own memories in the U.S.
We are looking for someone warm, responsible, and energetic—someone who will be patient with our boys, proactive in planning fun activities, and willing to share a bit of your own culture with us. Most importantly, we want someone who genuinely loves children and will help us create a happy, loving environment for them.
We are so excited to hear from you, learn about your background, and hopefully welcome you into our family. Please let us know if you have any questions at all.
Warm regards,

Elnaz, Justin, Bobby, Raphy, and Mickey Krane

Job Description

We're looking for an au pair who can confidently step into a fast-paced household with three young children — a bright, social 6-year-old (in first grade), a sweet, emotional 4-year-old (in kindergarten), and a 3-month-old baby who is breastfeeding and home full-time with Mom (on maternity leave, returning to work soon). You'll play an essential role in helping our home run smoothly and our children feel loved, safe, and heard.

? Core Responsibilities:
Infant care (feeding support, bottle prep, diapering, rocking, soothing, reading, tummy time, and baby laundry)

Helping with morning and after-school routines for the older two (dressing, snacks, outdoor play, tidying up), driving the boys to their after school activities

Lots of talking! We want someone chatty, expressive, and verbal — someone who speaks clearly and warmly to the kids all day long (vocabulary building is huge in our home)

Keeping children's areas organized and clean (playroom, kids’ laundry, restocking diapers and wipes)

Helping prepare simple meals/snacks for the children

Supporting bath and bedtime routines (especially if Mom is tied up with the baby)

✅ Required Skills & Personality Traits
We are not looking for a babysitter — we are looking for a steady, gentle, capable extra set of hands who truly enjoys being around children.

You must be:

Experienced with infants (including understanding sleep cues, safe bottle feeding, handling fussiness, and gently redirecting)

Extremely verbal and talkative — you’ll be narrating the day, chatting with the kids constantly, reading aloud, and helping build emotional language

Patient and emotionally intuitive — especially with our middle child, who is sweet and sensitive and thrives with calm, consistent support

Self-starting and proactive — noticing what needs to be done without needing constant direction

Warm and joyful — someone who loves children and it shows

Organized and responsible — on top of nap schedules, school bags, snacks, transitions

Comfortable in a busy household with a lot going on, and able to shift gears smoothly
