Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

START JANUARY 2025

Dear au pair, we are fun family looking for someone join us who loves dogs, as we have 2 furry friends as part of the family.

We would welcome an au pair from any country! We have family in Germany and I speak German, so I would like to bring our son up bilingual if possible. Whilst it would be great to find a German or German speaking au pair, it’s not that easy to find a match and invite any nationality of au pair to read our profile!

We are also looking for someone who will help us with the day-to-day running of our family. Our working schedule will be very flexible and likely not to be full time, as the nature of our jobs allows us to work from home regularly, leaving lots of time for you to discover the U.K. and wider European countries.

Job Description

Support will typically be focussed on our baby son who is 15 months old. He’s just started toddling and is loving his new found mobility! He goes to the some baby classes (sing & sign and some baby music classes), which our au pair will be able to attend on the days that we can’t because we are working.

Half of the time we have my Partner’s children - 2 boys, 12 & 9 years old. The 12 year old is becoming more independent and walks home school, the 9 year old is still picked up by us. Generally we will do the school pick-up, but we might need the au pair to do this on occasion. It is about a 30/40 minute walk to school, so ideally our au pair would have a driver’s licence, but it’s not essential as public transport in the area is very good. The older boys are fairly independent and don’t need much support, though on the odd occasion, we may ask for some extra baby sitting for these two if we want a date night!!

We run an equal household where everyone pitches in, including the children. The au pair will have some specific duties centred around looking after our baby; feeding & changing him, playing with him, taking him for walks, going to baby classes.

We will ask the au pair to support us in teaching the older boys how to do various chores around the home (cooking, loading and unloading the dishwasher, washing, putting things away, hoovering), it is important for us they learn how to be independent!

We have a weekly cleaner, but would ask our au pair to do some light housework; laundry, hoovering, wiping surfaces. House sitting when we’re away and feeding the dogs. If it’s viable also walking the dogs, but that’s not essential.

We have the older boys 50% of the time so the tasks change depending on which day we have all the children together. We make a point of eating together and would encourage our au pair to join us if they want to.

Seeing as the 2 older boys are with us every other weekend, we would encourage our au pairs to enjoy the weekends without them, travelling and discovering the U.K. and wider travel destinations. London is a hour away by train and Southampton airport is only 15 minutes and Heathrow only an hour away by car. Being in the U.K. allows fantastic opportunities all around Europe! It’s a great place to be located!
