Dear host family,
My name is Kennis Penomange , I’m 30 years old and currently Au pairing in France Toulon.I got my names Kennis; which means knowledge and Penomange being a traditional name which means I’m stepping on rich soil. Which would be the reason why I’m looking to expand my horizon and take up new challenges. I was born in a small village in the northern part of Namibia called Oshandi. I now reside in the capital city of Namibia Windhoek.
I was born by Lydia and George but raised by my uncle who was a single father by then, who went out of his way to make sure I received my basic needs both physically and emotionally. This was the start to the passion with taking care of children. I was raised in a household of seven siblings being five sisters and two brothers. With the boys being Kenoni (29), Eddy (27), Anna (32), Ndeshi (20), Alletter (14), Ndamono (16) and myself.
I would consider myself as the peacemaker and the jovial one amongst my siblings. I live in the suburbs of Windhoek, Cimbebasia is the location. I would describe my upbringing as a community upbringing in a sense that every elder that saw me grow up played the role of parenthood in my life.one would say that discipline was not only instilled at home but by the community at large. I was taught that every person that’s older than me could or was allowed to correct me. And that birthed a sense of love and kindness for taking care of the children and everyone around me.so one could say it’s a very close community.
As a nanny I have taken care of children from 8 months to 4 years. I normally would take them for walks to familiarise themselves with nature as I feel nature has its own way of educating the little ones and enhance their curiosity as well as alert them with their surroundings. With children in pre-school, I would involve the children’s hands especially with developing the linguistic skills as well as numeracy to prepare them for formal school. Games and activities that e.g., involve them counting while keeping fit. With teenagers I would volunteer in after school activities that involved keep teenagers out of trouble. By doing self-help activities I mostly enjoyed doing activities that would build the girls self-esteem and encourage them to challenge themselves to do their best and get good grades.
I’m currently working as a beauty consultant at African sales company which is a South African company. I have been with the company for 2 years to date. In the meantime, I was also studying marketing management which I managed to write my final exams that was due in November 2021. I’m really proud of myself because of the good grades that I have obtained in my third year. I have obtained a certificate level 4 and diploma level 5 so far it has been a great journey indeed. The reason why I chose the marketing field is because I love interacting with people sharing ideas and I would say African sales groomed my confidence and sales experience. I have always wanted to experience a European culture which I figured being an Au pair with my passion for kids taking care of a family would be an advantage that would take me out there to explore by living with a European family which I believe will help me to be grounded in the culture which I’m gladly looking forward
to. From the beautiful landmarks and phenomenal culture, I’m convinced Europe is a place that would enhance and expand my knowledge of the outside world apart from home. From what I’ve heard the most Europeans are friendly and accommodating, something that I highly appreciate especially when one is far away from home. I am looking forward to enhancing my social skills with my host family I am sure they’ll be a helping stepping stone to new heights.
