How to become an Au Pair in Norway: Jonalyn's Au Pair story

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to share my experience being an Au Pair. When I was was trying to apply on this website, I found a Host Family instantly. They sent me a message and we kept talking until I moved here to Norway. I came here in Norway last December, so I have been here for one year already.

Being an Au Pair, you live with your Host Family and Host Kids. My Host Family was made up of a single dad and his 8 year old son Alex. When I arrived, they picked me up from the airport. I realised straight away that the host kid was very sweet. My host family is very kind and they always support me. The host dad is like my father and I feel like I am in my own family. He trusts me completely: he always travels for work, so he alwaysleaves me with my host kid at home. I treat Alex like my brother, my son, my friend. I live in this house with freedom and happiness.

I can say that I feel like I’m living in my own house with my own family. My host kid wanted me to live here forever: he can't sleep without a kiss and a hug from me. We play together, I help him with his homework. And now my journey as an Au Pair is finishing . How supportive were they when I was getting married! They came and joined my big day. My host kid was crying and saying that now that I was married I was going to leave him. I think that he doesn’t want to lose me because I have always treated him well and he was happy when spending time with me. I can assure you that through the Au Pair program, you will have a good family who will welcome you. To the people who like and wish to be an Au Pair: always remember to treat your Host Family well and they will treat you well in return.

This December I will finish my journey as an Au Pair: I have found a husband and will be with him from now on. I always tell my host kid and family to keep in touch and that everytime they need me I will be there.

All of the programs that we offer are focused either on children or on seniors. This is because, the visa for an Au Pair stay is different to a work permit which is what you would need to become a senior caregiver. Please have a look at the different programs here:

I want to be paired since have learned alot after reading this article and same time I would like to show my love to the young kids and take good care of them. Also I want to learn different cultures apart from my own.... Thank you for taking time to express your experiences as a aupair.
