Letter to the family

Dear Host Families,

My name is Ami, a 19-year-old college student studying Neuroscience with a minor in Japanese and a concentration in Education or International Business. As a former nationally competitive tennis player, I’ve learned discipline and responsibility at a young age, and I now channel that focus into academics and childcare. For the past year, I’ve lived independently with 3 roommates, managing household responsibilities while balancing my studies and sports. My experience coaching children at tennis summer camps and tutoring my Japanese cousin in English has brought out my passion for childcare and mentoring, and I'd love to bring this energy to your family next summer!

I am drawn to becoming an Au Pair & Live-in Tutor because of my love for cultural exchange and childcare. Japan’s language and traditions have been a big part of me as I am a half-Japanese person living in America. I attended a Japanese International school until 6th grade (2nd year of middle school), and have picked up Japanese courses again as a college student. Working with children, whether through sports, homework help, or creative activities, brings me immense joy. I aim to create a supportive, fun environment for your children, combining educational activities with hobbies like baking (a skill I’d love to share!) and outdoor games inspired by my tennis background. This role would allow me to grow personally while contributing meaningfully to your family’s daily life.

You can trust me to be a responsible, caring addition to your home. My independence, honed through living alone, ensures I’ll maintain a clean, organized space and manage tasks reliably. As the oldest sibling, I’ve naturally taken on caregiving roles, and my neuroscience studies inform my understanding of child development and learning strategies. My conversational Japanese will help me connect with your family, while my experience tutoring English ensures I can support their language growth.

I would be honored to discuss how I can contribute to your family’s routine and create lasting memories with your family!

Best,
Ami

Experience

Though I have no formal experience as an Au Pair or Live-in Tutor, my background equips me with the skills and passion to excel in this role. As the oldest sibling, I’ve naturally taken on caregiving responsibilities, from helping with homework to providing emotional support. My time coaching children at tennis summer camps taught me how to take care of kids, while tutoring English honed my ability to explain patiently. Living independently for a year has made me adept at managing household tasks and maintaining a clean, organized environment. I’m eager to become an Au Pair abroad to immerse myself in Japanese culture, share my love for baking and other activities, and create a nurturing, educational space for your children. This opportunity aligns perfectly with my academic interests and my desire to grow through meaningful cultural exchange.
