Letter to the family

I ALREADY FOUND A HOST FAMILY!

Dear host families,
I'm Stella, 18 years old and live in a big city in East Germany: Dresden.
I am currently a student in a graduating class with a passion for languages, especially English, but also Spanish.

In addition to school, I have been babysitting for different families for four years now. During this time I looked after children of age 2 to 12 and was able to build a close and special connection with each child. In total, I babysat for 6 families = 9 kids. Im currently working with 4 families and 7 kids ( I will write more about this in the next box )

I would describe me as a very openminded, optimistic, active, creative, cheerful and confident young lady, who knows what it means to take responsibility for herself and the people around her. I love to share my visions and ideas with the world, whether it is through my clothes or through my very good developed sense of coming up with lots of cool new games and activities for the kiddis im babysitting. :D

Family has always been very important to me, even though my parents separated many years ago, I had the chance to grow up in a house filled with love and support, what I would like to pass to your children.
Our favorite family activity is playing board games (almost) every Sunday evening, after a well cooked homemade dinner.
Besides, I have a great friends group, we like to go on active trips, for example going hiking in the sächsische Schweiz ("Saxon Switzerland") or bicycling.

My joy of working with children also led to my desire of becoming an aupair.
Having the opportunity to live in a country far away from home, getting to know the culture, language and food, and in addition to find a family in another part of the world sounds like a great deal I can't miss.
Since my brother is only two years younger than me, I never really got the chance to be an older sister, so I would like to take the second chance and be a big sister for your family!

Moreover, I think for a great relationship, its most important to communicate openly about any problems or disagreements you or I have, by listening and understanding each other. Im also very open for criticism and like to take concerns to my heart, to improve the current situation.

At the time I'm writing this text, in November 2024, I don't have my driver's license yet, but have already successfully passed the theory test and collected my first practical driving lessons. I estimate that once I apply for the international driving license, I will have my driving license by May at the latest.

Experience

I have always been a very child-loving person. Even in after-school care, I went over to the kindergarten to help the little ones put on their shoes or was always the one, being responsible for the kids at family functions.

In total, I have already babysat for six families.
Originally, I wanted to earn a little pocket money and became aware of babysitting.

I started babysitting in 2021. My first child to babysit was Marie, then 6.
I usually picked her up from kindergarten or later after-school care and looked after her at home until her mom came home. I played with her a lot, cooked her food or helped her with her homework. I no longer babysit Marie because her mom's working hours have changed.

Through Marie I met her neighbors Jan (then 5) and Alex (then 2), who I still see regularly... mostly on weekends when the parents visit the theater or cinema. I normally come around 5pm and cook them dinner before we play until 7pm, then I get them ready for bed. After reading aloud, they both usually fall asleep very quickly, around 8pm.
After they fall asleep, I either clean up the dishes or pick up any toys that were left lying around while playing and wait until the parents come.
Because they grew up bilingually, with their second language being Polish, reading aloud is really funny. They keep asking me if I can read a book in Polish. Even though my pronunciation is probably very bad, the kiddis are always very happy about it and the older one, Jan, usually tries to translate the words for me, which means I even learned a small polish vocabulary.
Because they live next to Marie´s I still get to see her very often, which is really nice because I can see how she is developing and still have a close bond to her.

Through another friend of my mom, I met Geertje (then 5) and Fritz (then 10) in 2022.
At the beginning I always picked Geertje up from kindergarten at around 4pm, then later from after-school care and took her home either by bike or by train. This taught me to take responsibility for a child in city traffic. When it got too crowded I usually just pushed the bike. Her older brother Fritz was usually waiting for us at home and we usually made pizza ourselves, sometimes we even went shopping before.
Until the moms came home in the evening, we usually played Lego or I helped with the homework.
I also put them to bed a few times, but because of their ages it was super easy.
Unfortunately, I don't see them both as often as I used to, but I'm always happy when an appointment comes up. We particularly enjoyed making pizza ourselves, which I now do with almost all of the children I babysit and would like to continue with your kids!

Through Gertie and Fritz, I, got to know their neighbors Else (then 3) and Jakob (then 6) in February 2024.
I'm usually with them on the weekends when their parents want to go out. I arrive at 6pm, after dinner. After the parents left, I get them both ready for bed. Jakob is already very independent, Else still needs a little help, but she can already do a lot on her own! I also change her diaper every evening, what always works good.
After brushing their teeth, which I do completely for Else and for Jacob I "after"-brush, we go to the sofa and read books for the next 1,5 - 2 hours. After I put both to bed, i sing goodnight songs or read a dream journey.
It takes about an hour until I can be sure that both of them are asleep, while I sit besides their beds, to let them feels safe and protected.
If that doesn't work, because Else misses her mom, I get her on the sofa and read her more books or continue singing. Even if that sometimes means staying up until midnight, im happy to do this, so she doesn't feels alone or unprotected, and knows, that im there for her. This way, Jakob can usually still sleep peacefully.
What I find particularly special is the bond between Jakob and Else. Else used to cry a lot in the beginning, Jakob always knew exactly what to do to make her feel better and so on also thought me how to comfort her.
Else rarely cries now, and when it does happen, I know how I can comfort her.

In January 2024, I met Thea (then 2). I am mostly responsible for her on the weekends, usually from 4pm to 1-2am, till the parents come back. I cook her dinner and after that, Thea and I always think up special games, dance, do our hair or read a lot of books. After playing, I get her ready for bed around 7pm. In order to fall asleep she needed an otter to make sea noises and someone to lie down next to her. Sometimes it workes, sometimes it doesn't, after several tries we usually go back downstairs and I continue reading to her. Over endless nights of sleeping support, I have build up a lot of patience and know, that every child has different needs. I still see her from time to time.

Who I also like to play hairdresser with is Clara (3), who I met in May 2024 through a babysitting website.
I'm with her every Thursday or Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm while the parents are out.
At the beginning we play a lot, mostly doctor, where we treat her stuffed animals, or police, where we arrest the stuffed animals. After playing, I cook her food. Then I start getting her ready for bed. I bathe her, change her diapers, brush her teeth, change into pyjama and style her hair until the parents come home.

In addition to my job as a babysitter, I did an internship in a kindergarten in 2021 and an internship in a primary school in 2023. I had a lot of fun doing both and received very good feedback from both employers.

I have always wanted to live abroad for a certain period of time, and most importantly, pursue my passion.
Due to my family's financial resources, I thought there was no way to make this possible. Until I found out about the aupair programm. Still having the opportunity to live in a country far away, get to know the culture, language and people and to find a family in another country, sounds like a great opportunity.

Although I am already a big sister, I would love to be one again in another family. I always try to think of new games or activities with the children i babysit. We make our own pizza together, go to indoor playgrounds or discover new games. This is something I would like to continue as an AuPair. I also really enjoy speaking English, which is also the reason why im in the advanced course at school. It just sounds much cooler than German :D

In addition to English, I generally enjoy learning new languages which is also the reason why I learn Spanish in school. My Spanish can definitely be improved, but I already know almost all forms of the language and many grammar rules and can now understand standard sentences. I am sure that my Spanish will definitely improve by speaking it every day.

But I'm not afraid of getting to know a family whose language I don't speak.
Depending on when we match, I would try to pick up the basic skills of the language, for example about Doulingo, friends,...
So don't be shy to write me,I am more than willing to get to know your language and culture.

I hope I hear from you! ,¡Espero tener noticias tuyas! , J'espère avoir de vos nouvelles! , Ελπίζω να ακούσω νέα σας! , Ik hoop dat ik van je hoor! , Spero di sentirti!
