Letter to the family
Application for the position of Au Pair
Hey. I am a 19-year-old girl from Espoo, Finland. At the time I am living with my family. My family consists of my little brother and my parents. I finished my general upper secondary school this spring. Now I have started my gap year. Since April I have worked at an amusement park. It truly has been a perfect job and a possibility for me.
I am a very energetic and cheerful person. My hobbies include regular exercise at the gym and singing. In my free time I like to cook and bake. I would say that I’m pretty handy too. All my life I have liked knitting, sewing and drawing. These are just some of the things I would be excellent at helping with and entertaining the children with.
For my whole life I have loved being with children and ”educating” younger people. In Finland we have these things called ”tutor”. These tutors are upper grade students that help the first graders to get to know the school they are coming to. I have volunteered to be one through my whole education path. At my elementary school, middle school and also upper secondary school. My job task has been showing them the school buildings and grouping them. We have held many ”icebreaker” or ”introduction” games for them. Those
responsibilities have strengthened my outgoingness and made it possible to share it with other younger people.
When I was in high school I also worked as a counselor at a confirmation school. That job was for the church. I did other job tasks for them too. I held a craft club once a week for six to nine year-olds. Both of those jobs required teaching and a lot of responsibility and taking care of people. But that came naturally for me. I was always the one in the neighborhood that the younger kids wanted to play with.
For the last few years I have done a gig work. That has included occasional event organising. Those events were mainly for kids; craft clubs, gymnastic events et cetera. The different gig employees have always said that I am a natural with children. A translation of one of the feedbacks I have gotten: ”I can straight away see that you have worked with children” . With all of my past experiences I have found the job at the amusement park. There I have to entertain people of all ages all the time.
I think that Au Pairing would truly suit me. I would like to enrich my world view with the amazing opportunity. I enjoy taking care of children and they always end up loving me, which is the most important part. The other main reason I am looking for an Au Pair experience from Sweden is the Swedish language. My father was born in Sweden and has lived there a part of his childhood. That has made me enthusiastic to learn Swedish myself. Au Pairing in Sweden would be beneficial for my future studies. So I am very open-mindedly interested in learning the language too. And what is a better way of learning than living there and embracing the language.
I’m really looking forward to this experience and I hope to be the lovely and helpful part of your family. Be brave to contact me and let's see how my skills align with your needs.
Sincerely,
Iris
