Dear Host Family,
My name is Alice, I’m 24 years old and I’m from Milan, Italy. I’m writing to introduce myself and express my enthusiasm for becoming an au pair.
For the past three years, I’ve been tutoring children in various school subjects, including English. One of the children I worked with was from New York, which gave me the opportunity to blend academic support with cross-cultural exchange. Last year, I also babysat 10-year-old twins daily, helping them with their English and homework — an experience that deepened my love for working with kids and supporting their growth both academically and personally.
I have a strong background in languages. I studied English, French, and Spanish in high school, and earned a double diploma (Esabac) in Italian and French. I’ve attended language courses in Spain, France, and England, and at 17, I had the life-changing opportunity to be an exchange student in New Zealand, where I lived with a host family and helped care for their three young boys. That experience taught me adaptability, independence, and how rewarding it is to be part of a family abroad.
This year, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in International Politics, Law, and Economics, a course entirely taught in English. Many of my close friends come from different parts of the world, so speaking English daily — both in academic and personal contexts — has become second nature to me.
Some of the families I’ve worked with in Italy have asked me to stay longer to continue tutoring their children, but I’ve always been passionate about traveling, discovering new cultures, and learning new languages. This is why I feel ready and excited to start a new chapter as an au pair. I’m especially fascinated by East Asian cultures and traditions, and I’d love to immerse myself in a new environment while sharing my own background and helping your children learn and grow.
I consider myself responsible, curious, open-minded, and patient — qualities I believe are essential in an au pair. I’m really looking forward to becoming a positive, supportive presence in your family and creating meaningful memories together.
