Dear Family,
My name is Gabriela and I am a PhD student in Comparative Literature at the Sorbonne. I first encountered French culture at the age of 18, when I worked as an au pair for a family in Chatou-Croissy. Since then, I have lived between France, Brazil, and Italy, my two countries of origin and nationality; I divide my time between my studies and caring for my 6-year-old French-Haitian godson, Mathis.
From a very young age, I learned to take care of my little cousins because I loved bringing them into my home, telling them stories, playing with them—in short, keeping them company. So, I have no difficulty with bottles, diapers, or anything else needed to care for small children.
My experience with my cousins has certainly given me a fair amount of maturity and flexibility, making me an easygoing person with simple tastes. I'm calm and have a fair amount of patience. Affectionate yet decisive, I have a great deal of skill in teaching children, while paying close attention to their safety. Ultimately, the job of an au pair requires personal commitment, responsibility, and dedication, in addition, of course, to a natural inclination for all things child-related. I hope to have the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of French culture and to introduce those of my countries, to have a very practical experience of daily life in France, to develop my communication skills and to learn with a family, in which, without a doubt, adults and children will be able to teach me a lot – that everyone has roughly the same basic needs, regardless of nationality.
