Letter to the family

Hej!

It’s me, Lena :) I’m 21 years old, studying Rhetoric and English in Germany, and would love to spend a few weeks with your family as an Au Pair during my semester break. I’m excited about getting to know Swedish family life and sharing your daily routines.

I’ve always enjoyed spending time with kids — babysitting my neighbours’ children, working at a school for a month, and volunteering for a year at a Swedish youth center with children aged 6 to 18. Every child is different, and I love finding ways to connect, whether through play, creativity, or simply listening.

For me, being an Au Pair means becoming a part of your family for a while: sharing meals, helping with daily life, and learning from one another. I’d love to hear about your routines, what your kids enjoy, and even try some of your favorite recipes;)

My voluntary year in Sweden made me fall in love with the country that I first knew through Astrid Lindgren. Since then, I’ve started learning Swedish at university and would love to continue practicing with you.

I’d love to hear more about you and your family, and I’m looking forward to getting to know each other.

Experience

During the past years, I’ve gained a lot of experience working with children in different situations. I’ve been babysitting my neighbours' kids for several years, worked for one month at a school in Africa, and spent a year volunteering at a Swedish youth center, working with children and teenagers aged 6 to 18.

What I love about working with children is how much I actually learn from them — the way they see the world, how easily they dive into their fantasy world, and how even a simple laugh from a child can brighten my day.

But being an Au Pair is more than just spending time with kids. Over the last years, I’ve lived both in flat-shares and on my own, so I know what it means to take care of everyone’s needs in a household, find solutions together, cook for a whole family, and keep the house clean and organized. I also know that family life doesn’t always follow a routine — coming from a big family myself, I’m used to being flexible and helping wherever help is needed.

Even though I can only stay for 1–4 weeks this time, I adapt quickly, work independently, and am highly motivated to support you wherever I can.
