Letter to the family

Hello, family!

I’m Silvia Escobar, I’m 24 years old, and I’m writing to you from Alicante, although I’m originally from Villarrobledo, a small town in Albacete. When I was 18, I almost became an Au Pair; everything was ready and a wonderful host family was waiting for me, but in the end it didn’t happen. That spark is still there, and I can’t wait to finally take the leap.

After studying Audiovisual Communication at UMH and completing a Master’s in Digital Postproduction at UPV, I started working as a content designer. Although I have a basic–intermediate level of English that I’ve learned on my own, this past year I’ve realized how hard it is for me to speak it. I have a good ear and understand almost everything, but I struggle to express myself. I believe the only way to gain the confidence and fluency I’m looking for is by living it day to day. Plus, I’m excited to share traditions and discover ways of life I couldn’t experience any other way.

I consider myself empathetic and highly sensitive. I adapt naturally to any situation, I’m resourceful… and I love to laugh and make others laugh, because I think it’s the best way to connect!

I’m convinced this experience can be really special. Are you up for it?

Experience

Actually, I never became an Au Pair because my plans changed, but I do have experience caring for children! I have a six-year-old niece and a three-year-old nephew whom I adore. When my niece was born, I lived with my sister and her husband, so I spent many afternoons with her while my sister went back to work: we played games, had afternoon snacks, and read lots of stories together. Those were very special years.

Later, after I moved out on my own, I made sure to spend every summer with them—I missed them so much. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever had to being an Au Pair—haha! Now I see them every other weekend or so, and we always try to make the most of our time together.

So even though I haven’t had a formal host family, my day-to-day life with my niece and nephew has helped me develop patience, creativity, and plenty of energy for both caring for and having fun with kids.
