Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear future au pair!
We are a German family with two children, Helena (almost 3 years) and Matthias (15 months). We are looking forward to welcoming you as a new member into our family. Helena and Matthias are both lovely kids, generally get on well with each other, enjoy being outside on the playground or - in Helena's case - riding her bike. Helena is bilingual French and German and speaks quite well already. At home, we speak German to each other but are also able to speak English and (to a lesser extent) French with you. Our nannies have so far all been francophone and communication has never been an issue so I'm sure we'll figure this out :-)

We live very centrally in Brussels on Place Fernand Cocq, right next to the town hall of the Ixelles district of Brussels. All shops for daily needs, bakery, supermarkets, clothing stores, cinema etc. are within a few minutes walking distance on the big shopping street Chausée d'Ixelles. There are many cozy bars and cool cafes on the square. Bus 71 stops 1 minute from the house and takes you to the historic city center. The Porte de Namur metro stop is about 7 minutes away on foot. It is also not far to the EU institutions, about 5-10 minutes by car to the European Parliament and Place Schuman, the center of the EU quarter.

Our house is very old and a typical Brussels "maison de maitre" with a lot of charm. We have a small terrace and garden in the back.

Job Description

We will ask you for support, especially in the afternoon and evening. Your schedule could look something like this:

3 p.m. you will take over Matthias from the other nanny who looks after him in the morning.
3.30 p.m. Pick up Helena from kindergarten (take Matthias with you). Either by bike or on foot
Then: take the children to the playground. It is very important to us that the children are outdoors at least once a day.
Afterwards: craft, play, sing... at home.
6 p.m. family dinner, everyone together.

In addition, we would be happy to receive help with household chores here and there, such as tidying up and cleaning the kitchen after meals together, doing laundry, breaking down, tidying up.

Since we are both German, we specifically want an au pair with French as a native language so that our two children (and us :-)) can improve our language skills. If you are interested in an exchange in German, we are happy to do so at any time. We also speak good English, a little Spanish and Norwegian.

Accommodation

Your room is quite spacious with high ceilings and stucco in our beautiful old Brussels home. In the room itself there is a sink and mirror, hidden in the closet. You share the bathroom (bathtub for showering) with the children (there is the changing table in there and the kids also use the bathtub for their bath). There is a TV in your room and of course wifi in the entire house. You are welcome to use our kitchen whenever you need to.
