Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi there!

My name is Clare, and I live in a small, friendly town in Norfolk with my lovely son Theo, who is almost four years old. We are really looking forward to welcoming someone kind, fun, and down-to-earth into our little family as our next au pair. I’m a single mum and work from home as a freelance office manager, so having someone friendly and supportive join us really makes a big difference to our everyday life—and I hope we’ll feel like good friends as well as housemates.

Our home is in Dereham, a peaceful town with lots of green space, local shops, and playgrounds. The city of Norwich is about 30 minutes away by car or bus—it’s a beautiful, lively city full of history, great food, and cultural events. The closest bus stop is just a short walk from our house, and there’s a regular service into Norwich and surrounding areas. There’s also a language school in Norwich if you’re interested in taking classes.

We also travel to London once or twice a month to stay with my parents. You’d be welcome to join us—it’s a great chance to explore the city, and Theo absolutely loves those visits!

I hope your time with us will feel like a home away from home. We’re excited to meet someone who’s warm, playful, and genuinely enjoys spending time with children. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

Warm wishes,
Clare

Job Description

We’re looking for a warm, patient, and playful au pair to help us with daily routines and childcare. You’d help with morning preparations (breakfast, getting Theo ready for school), and support in the afternoons and evenings with playtime, dinner, and bedtime. Once Theo starts school in September, I may ask you to collect him around 3pm and care for him until I finish work at 4:30pm. Whether this happens will depend on how well he settles into school and how comfortable he feels at home with you.

Weekend support is important too—coming along with us on outings to places like the zoo, playgrounds, and Theo’s favourite: soft play centres! You’ll need to be the sort of person who enjoys getting actively involved in play and isn’t afraid to crawl through a ball pit.

Light household help is also needed—laundry, tidying up, and helping with meals. If you’d like to earn extra money, there’s the option of doing a full weekly clean too. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys being with children and wants to feel like part of the family.

Accommodation

We live in a spacious four-bedroom house with a garden. You’ll have your own bedroom, and although you won’t have a private bathroom, the house has three bathrooms in total: a family bathroom upstairs, a downstairs toilet, and my own en suite—so there’s plenty of space for sharing comfortably. The house is bright, cosy, and well-equipped with high-speed WiFi. We want you to feel relaxed, welcome, and at home here.
