Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello ❤️ We are a warm, multicultural family based in Hangzhou, China, looking for an au pair to be an older sister to our 7-month-old daughter. I’m of Polish mixed-race origin, fluent in English, Polish, Turkish, Chinese and Russian, while my husband is from northern China, and he speaks mainly Mandarin and a little english. Our home is rich with language and culture :) In addition to a close-knit family environment, we have a wonderful live-in helper as well as a nanny. We encourage open communication and will always prioritize your needs. We travel frequently to destinations like Shanghai, Chengdu, Tokyo, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Seoul, and we would love for you to join us, we just came back from a summer trip to Bali, Indonesia. It is preferable if you have a passport which allows frequent travel, however not a requirement. Our family also owns two properties in Hangzhou, one in the city center (which we mainly reside in) and another by the stunning West Lake, and we can offer private accommodations based on your preference. Beyond travel, I am still a student and study at Zhejiang University. If you’re interested in academic pursuits, I would be happy to support you in your studies and goals during your stay.

Job Description

For the au pair role, since our baby is still very young, the time spent with her will be minimal, mostly focused on basic communication and interactions. Ideally, we are looking for someone who is a native speaker of the specific language. In the mornings, the nanny will handle waking and dressing our daughter, and you’ll have the freedom to relax, chat with friends, watch TV, or engage in your own activities. You can gently introduce words to her, encouraging her to repeat them at a slow and steady pace. If I’m not at university, I’m more than happy to join you and offer assistance, though there is no pressure. The main goal is to make the experience enjoyable and stress-free, as she has a full-time nanny who handles most of her care. My primary request is that you read bedtime stories to her in your language and that’s all! we like to go with the flow haha

We’ve discussed the pocket money arrangement with my husband, and we believe that a weekly allowance of 5000 RMB (around 685 USD), or 20,000 RMB per month (approximately 2,740 USD), should be a fair amount. While we understand that this isn’t a job, your time spent with us will be away from your home and usual routine, so we want to ensure you feel comfortable and secure during your stay. This amount is intended for savings, especially if you're young and building your financial future. Of course, all your housing, meals, and other essentials will be fully taken care of by us, so you don’t need to worry about those things at all. The pocket money is simply a small token of our gratitude for your time and care with our baby. We hope you will be able to save it and enjoy it as a gift from us, without needing to use it for everyday needs, since everything you need will be provided.

As for visa, we can apply you to a university in Hangzhou, and you’d receive a study visa. You could even attend the same university as I do! If you prefer not to study, we can arrange a work visa by signing you into my husband’s company. You’d work one day a week and receive extra pay and work experience.

Accommodation

The au pair will be provided with a private en-suite room, featuring heated flooring, a spacious walk-in closet, and a bathroom equipped with a Dyson hair dryer and all necessary toiletries, along with beauty and cosmetics essentials. If you’d like, I’d be happy to go shopping with you to ensure you have everything you need. The closet will be stocked with essentials such as towels and other necessities. Additionally, you are welcome to access my personal wardrobe and wear my clothes, provided we are a similar size. Please don’t hesitate and feel free to use whatever you’d like, as I don’t mind at all. The kit is conveniently located, and there is a lovely conservatory stocked with snacks and refreshments for your enjoyment. If there’s anything specific you’d like, simply let our home nanny know, and we’ll ensure it’s purchased for you. You will also have access to the gym and swimming pool, both of which are available for your use at your convenience. If you hold a valid driver’s license, you may also drive one of our cars, or if needed, we can arrange to purchase a separate vehicle for you, depending on the length of your stay. However, I do have a driver, so if you don’t have a license, no worries! He can drive you anywhere you require and pick you up :)
