Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

A very warm welcome to our family! We are genuinely excited to have you join us as our granny au pair and can't wait to get to know you, share our home, and build a meaningful connection.

Let us introduce ourselves: We are Ed and Aline, a fun-loving and warm-hearted British-German family living in a small hamlet in the beautiful countryside. We moved here a year ago after buying a large farm, and we’re still enjoying the adventure of building our lives in this peaceful, spacious setting. It’s a lively place, full of love, a bit of happy chaos, and of course—two playful dogs, two curious cats, and two wonderful girls who are full of energy.

Our daughters attend school and kindergarten in the next village, which is just 3 km away. Hamburg is also within easy reach—only 30 minutes by train—and the station is just 5 minutes away by car. With both the Baltic Sea and the North Sea nearby, it's an ideal spot for anyone who loves nature, open skies, and peaceful surroundings with the city not too far away.

You’ll also be sharing the property with our grandma, who lives in her own separate flat. She's been an incredible help over the years, but she can no longer care for the children full-time. That’s why we’re looking for someone like you—not just for support, but to become part of our extended family.

Your new home will be a private flat with two rooms and a bathroom. We do use part of it during the day for our home offices, but otherwise, it’s entirely yours—a space to relax, recharge, and feel truly at home.

We believe deeply in mutual respect and living by our family motto: “giving and taking.” Life on a farm with kids and animals can be a little chaotic at times, but it’s also full of joy, spontaneity, and genuine warmth. We hope you’ll embrace that and feel welcomed into the rhythm of our daily life.

We’re so looking forward to this journey together—sharing meals, stories, laughter, and everyday moments.

With warmest regards,
Aline

Ps. we speak English and German at home

Job Description

We’re looking for a warm, reliable, and open-hearted person to become part of our family life as a granny au pair. The role involves offering loving support in our everyday routine, especially with our two daughters, while also enjoying the peace and beauty of country living.

Your Main Responsibilities

Help with morning and/or afternoon routines (getting the children ready for kindergarten/school, picking them up, playing with them, preparing light meals or snacks).

Offer support with occasional household tasks related to the children (tidying up toys, folding laundry, etc.).

Spend time with the children when we are working—reading, crafts, outdoor play, etc.

Provide a calm, steady presence in the home.

Communicate openly and kindly with us and the children.

Our Ideal Granny
Loves spending time with children and animals.

Brings patience, a sense of humor, and a willingness to engage in daily family life.

Understands the spirit of “give and take” – helping where needed, and also feeling free to enjoy downtime and independence.

Speaks basic German or English (our kids are bilingual).

We’re not expecting perfection—we’re looking for kindness, companionship, and someone who wants to be part of a loving, slightly chaotic but happy home.

If you like gardening, that would be wonderful.
