Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Originally translated from Français
Hello,

We are Vinciane and Rodolphe with our 3 children: Anaëlle (7 years old), Yoann (3.5 years old), and Marnix (18 months old).

We would really like to welcome you into our family to discover another culture, but also to help us with organization and free up quality time with and without the children.

Anaëlle loves Pokemon, inventing stories or shows, doing math exercises, crafts, and board games. She goes to the Nutons (scouts) some Sundays. She would like to learn the piano.

Yoann loves sports and being outside to burn off all his energy. Give him a stick and a puddle: he's ready for hours of play!

Marnix loves exploring the world and is learning every day.

I work in a European-themed miniature park and enjoy sports, reading, board games, discovering new things, and doing creative things.

Rodolphe works for a pharmaceutical company. He plays badminton, reads, and organizes online video games with his friends.

If we had a little more time, we would like to get back into ballroom dancing (rock 'n' roll, tango), go out a bit more, see our friends more, and pursue our hobbies a little more.

On weekends, we often stay home or go to the playground or see family.

Although this is our first time living with an au pair, we both have experiences abroad. I lived for six months with other Latin American students in Buenos Aires (and took the opportunity to discover the country), and Rodolphe lived in Bangkok for six years as a child.

Since this is our first time, we would like to try with someone from the EU first. In short, if you're interested in trying out the experience with a great family near Brussels, don't hesitate to contact me!

Job Description

We welcome you into our family and hope to share quality time together, while finding a good balance so you can discover Brussels or travel in the surrounding area.

It's important to us that you enjoy awakening children's curiosity: answering questions, explaining as much as possible, etc.

The aupair program in Belgium is limited to 20 hours/week. We would especially like help driving/dropping off (by electric bike) the children to and from school/daycare and activities until we return from work (around 5:30-6:00 PM), as well as preparing meals three times a week.

If you know how to play the piano and enjoy teaching, Anaëlle would like to have a short class or practice regularly.

Other responsibilities (depending on the week and to be discussed with you): occasional babysitting in the evening or taking care of the children on Saturday mornings, helping get the children ready for school/daycare in the morning or for bedtime, going on weekend outings with us, tidying up with the children, going to the pool with the children, etc.

You will sometimes take care of Marnix, sometimes the two older children, but never alone with all three children at the same time.

Two important things to know about the Aupair program in Belgium: you're a maximum of 25 years old, and you must take language courses in either French or Dutch and demonstrate a basic understanding of one of these languages.

A housekeeper helps us with cleaning twice a week. Therefore, we won't be asking for help with this (apart from light tidying up with the children).

PS: If you live in the EU and are interested in a nanny job, we can expand your duties and hours.per week. However, we must first find out what the procedures and conditions are here. Don't hesitate to contact me.

Accommodation

Originally translated from Français
We live in the Flemish region, on the outskirts of Brussels. The area is quite quiet.

We're a 12-minute walk from the metro that leads to the city center (30 minutes) and a 5-minute walk from the student campus (sports, nightlife, etc.).

Brussels is a city with a lot of expats and plenty of opportunities to go out and visit. There are also plenty of parks to walk in, and the Sonian Forest for nature lovers (a 20-minute bike ride from our place).

It's a very central city for visiting Belgium (going to the sea, the Ardennes forests, cities like Bruges, Antwerp, Dinant, etc.) but also to major cities in neighboring countries by train.

We are a 10-minute walk from a university campus (medical studies) which offers language courses, a sports center, student bars, and "kot-à-projet" (activities organized by student associations).

Regarding the house, we have a large house with a garden. Your bedroom is on the second floor, and we sleep with the children on the first floor. You'll have your own shower and toilet. There's an additional bedroom with a mattress on the floor if, exceptionally, a friend wants to visit you.

Your room has a double bed, a desk, and a mezzanine.

A bicycle (non-electric) will be available for your private trips.
