Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

*THANK YOU ALL FOR THE INTEREST SHOWED IN OUR FAMILY. WE ARE NOW LOOKING FOR AN AUPAIR TO START IN AUGUST 2026*

Dear future AuPair, it’s nice to virtually meet you! First of all, we would like to thank you for taking time to read our profile. We appreciate it! :)
We are now looking for an AuPair who can arrive in late August 2026 and stay until July 2027, so we’re looking for a 11months commitment. We will treat you like a family member, we take a lot of pride in being a great host family!

We live in a lively and welcoming neighbourhood in Ponteranica, on the outskirts of Bergamo, where everything you need is just a short walk away! Imagine starting your day with a cappuccino from a cozy Italian café, grabbing a fresh gelato on a sunny afternoon, or enjoying a delicious pizza from a local pizzeria just around the corner. You will love the nearby playgrounds, while the convenience of grocery stores, pharmacies, and public transportation will make your daily life effortless. With buses running regularly and an exciting new tram line arriving in 2026, getting around will be even easier. It’s a perfect blend of comfort, community, and Italian charm!

Nestled in northern Italy, Bergamo is a city that seamlessly blends history, culture, and natural beauty. It is uniquely divided into two sections: Città Alta, the enchanting medieval quarter enclosed by ancient walls, and Città Bassa, a vibrant, contemporary district. In Città Alta, visitors can meander through narrow stone streets, admire the elegance of Piazza Vecchia, explore the magnificent Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, and take in breathtaking panoramas from the Rocca di Bergamo or San Vigilio Castle.
Beyond the city, Bergamo is surrounded by spectacular landscapes, offering endless opportunities for outdoor adventures. The Orobie Alps feature scenic hiking trails, while the nearby valleys - Val Seriana, Val Brembana, and Val Imagna - are home to picturesque villages, soothing thermal spas, and lush green spaces.
A short 50-kilometer journey brings you to Milan, Italy’s bustling fashion and financial hub. Here, you can marvel at the iconic Duomo, browse the prestigious boutiques of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, or explore world-class museums and nightlife. Lombardy as a whole is a treasure trove of destinations. Whether it's a peaceful retreat to the shores of Lake Como or Lake Iseo, a romantic escape to Verona, or a cultural journey through the historic cities of Cremona and Mantua, the region offers something for every traveler.
Bergamo’s Orio al Serio Airport (BGY) is a major gateway to Europe, serving as Ryanair’s second-largest hub and connecting travelers to dozens of exciting destinations at unbeatable prices. With a range of other budget airlines operating here, exploring Europe has never been easier! Whether it’s a weekend in Paris, a sunny getaway to Barcelona, or an adventure in Prague, the world is at your fingertips. From Bergamo, your next European adventure is always just a short, affordable flight away!
With its rich heritage, stunning surroundings, and dynamic atmosphere, Bergamo is a must-visit destination that promises a unique and unforgettable experience.

Job Description

From Monday to Friday, I leave for work at 7:15am and come back at 1:45/2pm. Twice a month (on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday), I have school-related online meetings between 2:30pm and 4:30pm. I try to squeeze a run or a home working in before leaving for work.

Giorgio usually leaves either on Monday or on Tuesday, and comes back Thursday night. On Fridays, we works from home from 9am to 6pm.

What we expect from our Aupair is as follows:
- get both kids ready in the morning;
- drop them off at kindergarten by 8:45/9 - it’s a 7/10 minute walk;
- pick Sofia up from kindergarten at 3:45pm and then Edo from my mom’s after that;
- spend the late afternoon with Sofia and Edo until dinner time, which usually happens around 7pm;
- get Sofia and Edoardo ready for the night (pjs + teeth) after dinner;
- speak to Sofia and Edoardo in English --> this is mandatory for us: we want them to grow up fully bilingual.

There are going to be some afternoons when the kids are going to spend time with grandparents and aunties, but we still need to figure out when for the 2026/2027 year.

I will share the detailed schedule/routine after we match :)

We also ask that the AuPair keeps the shared rooms (kitchen, living room, upstairs bathroom, kids’ room) and her own room/bathroom clean.

As for households, we ask that the AuPair helps us out with the dishwasher (load and unload it) and with the laundry (hang to dry or collect clothes).

As Giorgio travels a lot of work - it may happen that he leaves on Monday morning and comes back Thursday afternoon - we also ask that the AuPair takes Grace out for a walk.

Every weekend is completely off and the AuPair is encouraged to travel Italy and Europe, or she can join us in our family activities! If we travel or organize any activities, the AuPair is more than welcome to join us and spend some time with us, our families, and our friends. However, we do understand if the AuPair prefers to discover Italy by herself, and we totally encourage her to do so! Giorgio is full of ideas, strategies, stories, and restaurant suggestions to help the AuPair truly enjoy Italy!

Accommodation

We have renovated the house in the 2019 summer, to prepare for our first AuPair to arrive, so you’ll have a pretty much new bedroom and private bathroom to yourself. The common/shared rooms are the kitchen, the upstairs bathroom, the living room, Sofia’s and Edoardo’s bedrooms.

As of now, the room has: a bed with a nightstand, a foldable couch, a coffee table with a kettle, a bookshelf with some books (we bought a few, others were a gift from our previous AuPair to future ones!), a wardrobe. The bathroom is complete, meaning that it has a shower, a toilet, a sink with a mirror and a cabinet, and a window that faces our stairs, so you’ll have full privacy.

We will provide you with personal items for showering (shampoo, gel shower, conditioner, hairdryer, etc), as well as towels, bedding, two bikes, a buss pass, and an Italian phone number with 20giga to use in Italy and in the Schengen area (limited giga while travelling, but still available).

We live in a detached house, with a beautiful private front garden, a share backyard with fruit trees, and a vegetable garden.
Your private bedroom + bathroom is located on the lower level of the house, with an independent entrance. There are some steps leading to the front door, but there’s a canopy that protects you from rain and snow.
