Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Au Pair,

Hello! I’m Snow, the mother of the family, and my husband’s name is Victory. We are a loving family of four with two adorable twin daughters, Aurora and Athena, who are currently six and a half years old and in first grade. In addition to the four of us, my husband’s mother also lives with us.

Both of my daughters are lively and independent. The younger one tends to enjoy expressing herself more, while the older one appears a bit calmer and more composed. They love drawing, listening to stories—especially historical ones—playing with LEGO, horseback riding, and playing the piano. Piano has become a natural part of their daily life, and they spend a significant amount of time practicing every day.

Their daily routine usually starts at 7:00 a.m. when they wake up and have breakfast, and they leave for school around 7:40 a.m. They stay at school until noon, then come home for lunch and take a nap for about an hour. In the afternoon, we don’t send them back to school because we prefer to spend that time developing their piano skills. They usually practice at home with their teacher, have dinner afterward, do homework, and go to bed around 10:00 p.m.

When it comes to caring for the girls, I think the biggest challenge is communicating about rules while keeping emotions calm and balanced. Since they are still young, they can sometimes get emotional and cry.

My husband and I run a real estate development company together. We mainly develop outlet malls in different cities. My husband also works part-time as a university professor. Because of our work, many of our colleagues are foreigners. I can communicate in simple English, but I also hope to keep improving my language skills once the au pair arrives. My husband’s mother, who lives with us, is 74 years old, but she’s full of energy and has a cheerful personality. We also have a nanny who comes daily to cook for us, though she doesn’t live in our home. Overall, our family atmosphere is quite relaxed and warm.

As for our expectations, we hope the au pair can help create an English-speaking environment for the children. We would love for the au pair to become an older sister figure rather than a teacher—someone who can help the girls learn through play and interaction. My educational philosophy is based on guidance and encouragement. We hope our au pair is emotionally stable, kind, approachable, and can be a positive role model for the children.

We will provide the au pair with a private bedroom and three meals a day. We are truly looking forward to welcoming you into our family!

Warm regards,
Snow
