Letter to the family

Hello! My name is Zoë and I have just finished my secondary school education and am going to study English literature with ancient history at university when I return to the UK. I wish to be an Au Pair to learn, not with an indifferent attitude towards the culture just for the sake of it, but with the hope to fully immerse myself in a new culture with different approaches to life so I can understand and develop myself. Give and take is important to me with any relationship and I’d like this to manifest with my host family, in the aspects of childcare and anything else I could do to make your life slightly easier. I am a hard worker academically and physically, and as my parents work hard to financially support my studies, I have also contributed by working as a waitress and looking after my now 10-year old sister by cooking, cleaning and helping with her homework.

Experience

I know it may be daunting inviting someone from overseas to look after your child, especially with limited experience as an Au Pair. The experience I have acquired lies within the realm of tutoring, my father is Jewish and taught me to read Hebrew which I taught to 8 children every weekend between the ages of 4-12. I have also tutored children in the lower years of my school in Latin, as I studied it as one of my A-levels (I’m a sucker for the classical world.) One of my ultimate reasons to Au Pair abroad, however, is to advance my language skills, which I find as difficult as anyone to pick up but my pursuit for self-growth means I am otherwise undeterred to give up.
