Letter to the family

Dear host family,
Hello, I'm Laura Alejandra, I'm 23 years old, and I'm from the city of Bogota, Colombia. I
grew up in this city, which is the capital of my country, it is a place with a very particular climate and
delicious food. I live with my mom and my cats and I am an only child. My mother studied at the National
Pedagogical University of Colombia and has a degree in Physical Education, for that reason since I was a child
I have been involved in sports activities and took several courses, one of them is swimming which I practiced
for the longest time. The most recent sport I did was tennis, I also did short courses in skating, basketball, and
volleyball.
I graduated from school in 2017 and began to study at the Mariano Moreno School of Gastronomy in 2019
here I studied as a labor technician in gastronomy and pastry, also thanks to the electives of the university I
have a certificate in drinks (coffees, wines, and cocktails). This technician had a duration of 2 years, but due to
the pandemic I had to postpone a semester, despite this at the end of May 2022 I obtained my degree. In the
professional field, my most recent work experience was at Juan Valdez where I learned to make different
kinds of drinks, this job taught me patience and kindness, even in difficult situations.
What can I tell you about myself? I am responsible, friendly, patient, and caring. I enjoy spending time with
my mom and my cousin we like walking, touring the city, and trying out new restaurants, I also like spending
time at home with my cats, taking pictures, and watching them sleep. I am an adventurous person and I like to
take on new challenges and learn new things about people and their cultures.
I like to dance, I think it's a great way to exercise and you can dance whatever you want, the important thing is
that you feel happy doing it. I also enjoy painting; it connects me with my creative part. In my free time I like
to read and take walks in nature, I do this to relax. And as I mentioned before I really enjoy doing sports like
swimming and playing tennis or doing pilates at home.
Another thing about me is that I obtained my driver’s license in 2023, and I have been practicing driving with
my mother ever since.
The reason why I decided to become Aupair is I want to have a positive impact on other people's lives,
particularly children. I want to be a support for them and help them feel confident, both on good and bad days.
Additionally, I am curious about their culture, such as traditional food, festivities, important sports, and the
music they listen to, including nursery rhymes and lullabies. I believe it's important to learn about different
cultures for both parties. I am excited, I know that this experience will enrich my background and I´ll learn a
lot. Likewise, I´d love to become a part of your family.
All the best for my future host family and thanks.

Experience

Regarding childcare experience, I had the opportunity to take care of my cousin, who was 13-14 years old at
that moment, I helped her with her school assignments by tutoring three or two times a week, I did that for
almost 3 months. I helped her with school assignments in subjects such as English and math, and I also guided
her in other areas like Spanish or religion, it was a big challenge since she has attention problems, but despite
this, I managed to help her and improve her grades.
Later in I took care of my boss's son, along her mother when he was 1-year-old, I did that on weekends in June
and July. He is a very cheerful child. The activities I did with the baby were helping the mother organize the
baby's room, helping in the preparation of the baby's food and making sure he ate, I also accompanied them to
the park and played with him. We practiced nursery rhymes, sang and danced them, we drew and read.
Additionally, I took care of my boss's daughter, she’s a girl full of energy with her I played didactic games, to
practice colors and shapes, I also read her stories and we went for a walk.
I also took care of the daughter of one of my mother’s co-workers. She was three years old when I took care
of her and I did on the weekends all through August, I did this when they needed my help or company so that
the mother could work comfortably. I loved taking care of her because she was a patient kid, we played and
did activities such as drawing.
Most recently I did internships in a kindergarten in my neighborhood, here I took care of some children but the
ones I spent the most time with were the 1 and 2-year-olds, this one I did from Tuesday to Friday. This was a
very nice and joyful experience, I loved every second of it. Each child had a different personality, some were
very cheerful and talkative, full of energy, while others were more shy at first, as they didn't know me, they
would only talk to me when they needed to go to the bathroom, but as the days went by I gained their trust and
it was much easier. My functions were assisting the teachers in the activities they planned, such as painting
activities, outings to the park, reading them stories, playing with them, and taking care of their hygiene such as
washing their hands, and being aware of when they wanted to go to the bathroom. In addition to
accompanying them and helping them with food in case they need it. Do recreational activities in the park such
as playing hopscotch and with bubbles, all this while accompanying the teacher. I read them books and go
over the numbers and colors, talk to them about their family and what they like to do.
