Letter to the family

Dear Future Family,

I hope this letter finds you well and filled with excitement for the journey ahead. While I don’t yet know your names, I am thrilled that you are taking the time to consider my application, and I eagerly anticipate the possibility of meeting you in person.

My name is indica, and I wear many hats - from being a Sports Massage Therapist and Nanny to a Therapeutic Care Worker for foster children. My journey has taken me across various roles, including serving as a disability care worker for both adults and children. But perhaps most significantly, I consider myself a traveler, with Kenya currently being my home base alongside my partner. Despite my wanderlust, I always find my way back to Nairobi, with occasional trips to my native Australia.

Two years ago, I arrived in Kenya with the intention of establishing a charity to support Maasai girls in their education journey, aiming to prevent the risks of practices like FGM and early marriage. What started as a brief stint has evolved into a deeper commitment, as I found myself drawn to the vibrant culture and warm community here. Alongside my charitable endeavors, I resumed my passion for sports massage therapy, intertwining my professional skills with my desire to make a positive impact.

Working with children is where my heart truly lies. As the oldest sibling in a homeschooling family, I naturally assumed the role of a second mother, guiding and nurturing my younger siblings. This upbringing instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and a knack for mentorship, making me well-equipped to care for and empower children from all walks of life. Whether it's assisting with learning disabilities or providing physical care, I approach each child with respect, dignity, and a commitment to fostering their curiosity and love for learning.

Now firmly rooted in Kenya, I am eager to channel my passion for childcare into a fulfilling career. If you're interested in learning more about me and how I can contribute to your family, I would love to connect over a phone call or a cup of coffee. Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to the possibility of joining your household and embarking on this journey together.

Warm regards,
indica

Experience

I have previously worked as a nanny abroad for a family recommended to me by friends in Sydney. This opportunity arose when I applied to become their nanny before their journey to America. During my time with this family, I cared for three children: two 9-year-old girls, one of whom had autism and the other ADHD, and a 16-year-old son who faced challenges with cerebral palsy and OCD.

The parents, who were digital nomads, were busy running conferences in America, which meant I assumed full-time responsibility for the children, along with overseeing their distance education based on the New South Wales curriculum while we traveled. Managing all their travel arrangements and flight logistics, we traversed through various states together for two months. Upon their return, the family had a permanent nanny lined up.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of exploring a new country with the children I cared for. Though my heart is currently set on making Kenya my home, the adventure of working abroad has left a lasting impression on me.
