Letter to the family

My name is Jasmine, and I’m from Australia. I’ll be 19 years old in January 2026. I come from a large, blended family and have grown up with strong values like responsibility, kindness, and respect. I’m energetic, reliable, and deeply passionate about working with children. I’ve had experience caring for my younger siblings, babysitting for other families, and working in after-school care. I love being active, enjoy spending time outdoors, and have a deep appreciation for cultural exchange and personal growth.

I want to become an au pair because I genuinely enjoy working with children and love the idea of being part of a family while experiencing life in a different country. Having grown up with au pairs in my own home, I understand the positive impact they can have. I’m excited to build meaningful relationships, support a family, and gain new perspectives through cultural exchange. Becoming an au pair also aligns with my future goal of becoming a primary school teacher.

You should consider hosting me because I bring warmth, maturity, and hands-on childcare experience to your family. I understand the responsibilities of caring for children and maintaining a supportive household. I’m proactive, dependable, and always approach my role with joy and commitment. I’m also eager to contribute to your family life—not just through childcare, but also by sharing my culture, helping with household tasks, and being a positive and consistent presence in your children’s lives.

I qualify for the au pair position because of my extensive experience with children of different ages—both within my family and in professional settings like after-school care. I hold a full driver’s license and am comfortable with school runs and activities. I’m also used to helping with light housework, cooking simple meals, and managing daily routines. Beyond my practical experience, I bring genuine care, patience, and enthusiasm. I also have a strong understanding of what makes the au pair–host family relationship work, having experienced it firsthand growing up

Experience

While I haven’t officially worked as an au pair yet, I have had extensive hands-on experience caring for children in both family and professional settings. I’ve helped raise my younger siblings Joey, Liam, and Charlotte since they were little, and that experience gave me a deep understanding of what it takes to support children emotionally, mentally, and practically on a daily basis. I’ve also worked in after-school care at a primary school and regularly babysit for other families, which has helped me gain skills in managing different personalities, planning engaging activities, and creating a safe and positive environment for kids.

What makes my perspective unique is that I actually grew up with au pairs in my home. My family hosted three au pairs from the U.S. and Belgium, so I understand the role from both sides. I know how special the bond between a host family and an au pair can be when there’s mutual respect, communication, and care. This firsthand experience inspired me to want to become an au pair myself.

I’d like to become an au pair abroad because I’m passionate about cultural exchange, personal growth, and making a meaningful contribution to a family’s life. I’m especially drawn to Canada, not only for the opportunity to explore a beautiful country and its snowboarding culture, but also because my parents lived there before I was born, and their stories made it feel like a second home to me. Living abroad will allow me to step out of my comfort zone, grow as a person, and bring my love of children and positive energy into a new family setting.
