Letter to the family

Hello,

My name is Jenny Sakura and I am currently looking for a new Au Pair or Nanny position and cultural exchange in Japan!

Growing up with my mother, being from Sapporo and my father, being from Germany, I have first-hand understanding of the value of cultural exchange. As a child I had the great chance to visit my Japanese grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncle about 10-13 times. I fell in love with the Japanese culture and am so proud to be half Japanese.
To gain more international experience, I spent 2015-2016 as an AFS student in the US and fell in love with my host family and my life in Maine. Now I am fluent in written and spoken English.

Upon my return to Germany, I completed my ‚Abitur‘ in a Gymnasium (German High School). I have volunteered for the AFS exchange program in Germany for students from all over the world. During camps, as well as during study trips, I took care of up to 20 children (14-18 years) with another volunteer. This year I started tutoring a 10 year old girl in German and English.

During these years and experiences I learned how important cultural exchange is to me and how language works as one of the best tools.
I successfully completed my training as an e-commerce clerk in 2022 and am currently waiting for my official papers of my Bachelor of Arts degree in the field of marketing & digital media. Now I am ready to see the world again.

In the future I would love to combine my German, US-American and Japanese knowledge in the field of intercultural exchange, project/ product management or marketing management.

To celebrate my bachelors degree I spent three months in the US and traveled across the country with a friend I made during my exchange year. During these weeks on the road, with plenty of time to think, it became really clear to me that I want to live and work in Japan and develop a deeper and clearer understanding of Japanese culture and that part of who I am. While my mom is Japanese, I grew up in Germany and feel like I am missing a part of myself.

By being the oldest of three girls, I love to spend time with my siblings, seeing them growing up and evolving. I hope I have met my parents expectations in being a good role model for both of them and bringing joy to their life.

I am a happy, enthusiastic, high energy person. I work hard, whether it’s tutoring a 5 year old with dyslexia or writing my thesis. I would expect to work mindfully and give my best in the position I have in Japan. My goal is to learn Japanese while bringing happiness to the people around me and having intercultural exchange. Currently I am attending a Japanese language school in the morning and have the pleasure to be an Au Pair in Tokyo in the afternoon. Starting mid May my contract will lead to an ending and until I finish my school and find a full-time position or internship I would love to join your family.

I hope I made some kind of a good impression and would be very happy to hear from you! Have a nice week and hopefully see you soon.

Experience

Since the middle of November 2023 I am an Au Pair for a lovely family in Tokyo. To personal reasons in the family my contract will end by the middle of May. I spend about 30hs/ week with three children playing, reading stories, doing homework, teaching some piano and explaining lots of things about nature, earth and everything peeking their interest.

I do have two younger siblings, was tutoring a 10 year old and did several camps with children/ teens (14-18 years) from all over the world.
Working with all the age groups together I noticed how much fun I have spending time with children. I love to see the development, growth and pure bliss developing in simple situations. I did have a beautiful childhood on a village and love having fun in the small moments.
I do love to spend time outside (going for walks, enjoying nature, observing animals) or being creative inside (e.g. drawing, playing piano) and would love to have an amazing time with your children.

My main goal during that time, besides having a blast and fun times with children, is to learn Japanese. I think your children will help me learn and practice simple Japanese while I would love to help with English or German, maybe some French.
