Letter to the family

Dear Host Family,

My name is Augusto Pires Mariana Sofia (sorry I know it's super long haha), I'm 22 years old, originally from Portugal, and currently living in France with my family.

I speak Portuguese and French fluently, and I'm also confident in English.
I'm responsible, kind and dedicated person who is now looking to live a new experience outside my comfort zone and discover another culture by becoming an au pair or a caregiver.

Since I was 18 years old, I've been taking care of my little brother - he is now 4 years old and I've dedicated all my time to him. My parents work long hours, so I've naturally taken on a big role in his daily life.
I prepare his meals, give him baths, put him to sleep, and teach him basic life skills through games and conversations. I do everything with love, and I've learned how to be patient, creative, and fully present with a child. This experience taught me a lot about caregiving, responsibility, and emotional connection.

I don't have professional experience with elderly people, but I'm very willing to learn. I believe that respect, patience, and kindness are the most important qualities. I'm a fast learner and truly open to new experiences- I don't mind stepping out of my comfort zone to grow and help others. I would be very happy to be part of a host family that is welcoming, open-minded, and values trust and communication. In return, I will bring dedication, warmth, and a strong sense of responsibility to your home. I'm especially attentive to the emotional needs of others, and I always do my. best to create a safe and joyful atmosphere.

I don't have yet a driver's licence, but I am very comfortable using public transport and managing routines independently. However, I am open to the idea of passing my licence during my stay, if the family needs me to drive and if it's possible in the country where I'll be hosted. I'm always ready to learn new things.

I'm also trying to go back to school, so I see this experience as a way to grow personally while contributing to a family that needs support.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope to find a family that believes in me. I would be honoured to join your home.

Warm regards,

Mariana.

Experience

I don't have professional experience as an au pair or caregiver for the elderly yet, but I've been taking care of my younger brother since he was a baby, like I said in my letter- I've been involved in his daily life, feeding him, giving him baths, putting him to sleep, teaching him basic things, and creating fun activities to support his development.

This daily responsibility had taught me a lot about patience, organisation, and care.

Although I haven't taken care of elderly people, I'm a fast learner and I'm genuinely open to learning how to support older people with respect and kindness. I'm motivated, and not scared to try new things.

I would love to become an au pair and/or caregiver abroad because I want to grow as a person. This will be my first time living away from my family, and I see this as a big step toward becoming more independent and responsible.
I'm also hoping this experience can open doors for me to study abroad in the future and to discover new possibilities in life.

Most of all, I want to challenge myself, get out of my comfort zone, and live a meaningful cultural and human experience by helping others.
