Letter to the family

I'm Liv, I'm 22 years old and I'm currently in the last semester of my English and Media Cultural Studies degree in Cologne. In addition to my studies, I work at WDR (a German TV station) as a freelancer in the media centre and babysit for a family.
I would like to become an au pair because I enjoy working with children and at the same time want to experience a new culture at close quarters. As an au pair, I can combine my enjoyment of childcare with my interest in languages, cultural exchange and living in a different environment.
The host family should choose me because I am reliable, empathetic, independent and responsible. I enjoy spending time with children, accompanying them in their daily lives and have several years of experience in childcare. I am also open to new cultures, willing to learn and integrate well into family life.
My aim is to become part of your everyday life, not just as a carer, but as a real temporary family member.

Experience

Since last year I have been working as a babysitter for a family 1-2 times a week. I look after two boys (aged 6 and 9) there, who I pick up from school and then spend the afternoon with them. We often go to football training together, play board games and spend a lot of time outside. Sometimes I'm also there for a whole day or look after the boys in the evenings. I also grew up with lots of children in my family, who I often looked after as the eldest.
As I really enjoy spending time with children, I would like to continue this role abroad as an au pair. There I see the chance to get to know a new culture and experience the daily life of a family and support them, as well as learn a new language or improve my language skills. Living abroad gives me the chance to grow beyond myself, to face new challenges and to strengthen practical everyday skills.
