Letter to the family

Hello, my name is Abigaël. I’m 19 years old, I live in France, and I’m currently studying tourism. If all goes well, I will obtain my BTS in Tourism this May.

For the summer of 2025, as usual, I plan to work to earn some money and spend time with my family. Then, in September, I have decided to take a break from my studies to embark on an adventure as an au pair in Germany. For up to a year, I want to travel, immerse myself in German culture, and, of course, learn the language as best as I can.

Why Germany?
I had my first German lesson at the age of 12, and I immediately fell in love with the language. Germany fascinates me with its landscapes, its culture, and its similarities to France—while also being so different. I truly want to learn to speak German fluently, not only to enrich my resume but, most importantly, for myself. I want to bring this long journey full circle because, despite years of studying German, I don’t feel like I’ve progressed as much as I’d like, given my passion for languages—especially German.

Why become an au pair?
As I shared my plans, many people asked me if I had considered becoming an au pair. The more I thought about it, the more it made sense. I enjoy spending time with children, and living with a German family would be the best way to fully immerse myself in the language.

That’s why I’m here today. I would truly love to be part of your family—to help care for your children and assist with daily tasks while you help me learn your language, culture, and traditions.

Experience

I don’t have experience as an au pair yet, but I hope to have the opportunity to gain it soon—thanks to you!

However, I have been babysitting since I was 14 (in 2018), taking care of children on my own in my village. I also come from a big family—I have two sisters and a brother. In 2019, my cousin was born, and I often looked after her from the time she was just three months old. Then, in 2021, my younger cousin was born, and I took care of him as well whenever my aunt was working.

I genuinely enjoy looking after children—talking with them, playing, and using my creativity to keep them entertained as much as possible.
